cooking classes at the local community college

back in the early 90s, BK (before kids), I took several "non-credit" cooking classes with 2 of my co-workers at the local community college and one at the university. they were all 1-session long, around 3 hours on one Saturday or Friday evening. it was really fun because you get to eat!

we took these classes:
loaves and fishes
Italian (pizza and pasta)
holiday cooking (Christmas/Thanksgiving)

I'm thinking of doing this again, but gosh, the classes are so expensive! my co-worker's rationale was that it's like going out for dinner and learning at the same time.

Do you have a Sur La Table by any chance? I think they have cooking classes that are relatively inexpensive -- at least they used to (20 years ago? ) It was really just an avenue for them to sell more equipment, so be warned on that front, but they were fun and I did learn some things I still use pretty regularly.

we are a deprived state - no Sur La Table here.

however, there is a really good locally based health food store that has lots of free cooking classes. they're not as big as Whole Foods, but they were here first, and have a loyal fan base.

we have Williams Sonoma too.

Williams Sonoma occasionally does cooking classes, or at least they used too. There's not one here, but there was one near where my in-laws live and I remember seeing the signs advertising various classes in front of the store. It never worked out where I could take one though.
