I highly recommend Broadchurch (first season, really good, available in Netflix streaming). Oh yeah, Bletchley Circle is good too!
I also like Poldark, IT crowd, Luther, Dr Who, Sherlock, Call the Midwives, Red Dwarf, Indian Doctor (on Hulu), Being Human, Coupling, Jekyll, Misfits (I liked the first 2 seasons I think), Doc Martin, Larkrise to Candleford, etc. May I recommend some Australian shows (available in Netflix)? I know you asked for British shows but these are really good! Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries is awesome! Little Lunch is so funny! Another Aussie show, comedy-ish but stressful to watch is Dreamland. Canadian show: Murdoch Mysteries (I think this is called Artful Detective on PBS), Orphan Black International/European setting: Crossing Lines (I like the first 2 seasons) Keep the shows coming. |

Lots of great shows already mentioned! I love British TV, and some of my other favorites include the mini-series adaptations of classic novels (e.g., Great Expectations, Jane Eyre, Tess of the D'Urbervilles). Also really enjoyed the adaptation of Wolf Hall, which was on PBS. If you like Little Britain, check out Catherine Tait - she's unbelievably funny (you can see clips on youtube). A great comedy is The Thick of It, but you need to be okay with profanity (we're talking Veep levels). But delivered by someone with a Scottish accent, it somehow seems eloquent.

Oh, I almost forgot my all-time favorite novel adaptation: North and South! Richard Armitage is beyond dreamy, and the story of the industrial revolution and class struggle in 19th century England is told really compellingly!
