Congratulations on your purchase.

This website has great info for indoor cyclists:http://indoorcyclingassociation.com/ and her blog: http://www.indoorcyclingassociation.com/blog/

I found I prefer virtual outdoor cycling. They can be done in small chunks as you acclimate to your bike.

My favorites:

Sufferfest http://www.thesufferfest.com/video-sufferfests/

Virtual Active http://www.vafitness.com/collections/icg-world-tour

Endurance Rides http://www.endurancefilms.com/store/home.php cat=264

Epic Rides http://epicplanet.tv/catalog/dvds_downloads/

Global Rides http://www.globalride.net/

For studio cycling I like Les Mills: RPM. If you can find them, they are fun, have great music, and are under 60 minutes.

Oh wow, if I spun at home I would LOVE these! They use clips from actual races with much better music than is used on spinervals. I saw part of the Paris-Roubaix race that Fabian Cancellera won (my fav) in Sufferfest. These might not be great for newbie spinners, but excellent for more experienced cyclists and those who love pro cycling.

Rhonda, I personally find the Spinervals catalog to be a little overwhelming. Hopefully someone will jump in with specific recommendations; I did buy the Ray Lewis 2-pack when that went on sale in November, and I really liked these! I will say that I, like Ray, stay on the bike during the plyo intervals, LOL.

I can also second a lot of the workouts Damselfly recommends; she introduced me to several of those vendors, and the workouts are awesome! I love the Epic Rides and Endurance Rides in particular - they offer a really nice blend of training intervals/ride types.

I will also say that I personally found cycling to be REALLY hard at first. It is very quad-intensive work and it pays to take the time to work up to the longer rides. I rode for 15 minutes 3x/week at first, then gradually increased over the course of a few weeks. I've had my bike since October and now I regularly do the 70- to 90-minute rides; they tend to be my favorite ones.

Anyway, good luck! I hope you love your bike!

Just a word of caution on the virtual cycle workouts. If you suffer from motion sickness, these might make you nausious. DH has a few, and I've tried two of them, which left me feeling really sick. He really enjoys them, so if you have a hearty stomach, you should be fine.

I am really prone to motion sickness, both as a passenger in vehicles and in boats, as well as with various amusement park rides, and I haven't had any problem with any of the virtual outdoor cycling productions.

However, it should be noted that Virtual Active re-mastered their cycling dvds changing the speed and format to address motion sickness issues, they also made them two 30 minute rides that you can also choose as a 60 minute ride, and they changed the coaching to Jim Karanas. These are now being sold under their label as, ICG World Tour, which are different than the Virtual Active Cycling that Mary is selling at Total Fitness. She is selling the older version.

Yes, the Sufferfest use actual race footage. They are a lot of fun, and David, Mr. Sufferfest, has an great sense of humor. No other workout ever makes me burst out laughing in the middle of it. I'm a huge fan. http://www.thesufferfest.com/

Just found this thread, yay! I went to ride some spinning bikes today and fell in love with the LeMond RevMaster Pro. Have been wanting a spinner for years and finally have the perfect excuse to get one, so I'll probably get it next weekend. Great thread to help me get my new addiction into full swing, thanks!

If you found a place that has a Revmaster pro, grab it! Lemond sold his company to Hoist several months ago and those bikes have been very hard to come by since. I know, because it's what I decided on, then couldn't find one in my part of the country,so I went with my second choice. Hoist is a reputable company that will undoubtedly continue to produce and support these bikes. The Revmaster Pros are fantastic spin bikes,as you know if you rode one!

Well, lucky dog, enjoy!!!

Oh wow, thanks so much for the tip! I might go back over tomorrow and snap it up. Everything I've read about them is very positive and folks seem to love them.

I'm in the minority re spinervals. Maybe it's because I regular take spin classes with a couple of instructors who are also tri/cycling coaches? My beef with them are:

1) The music sucks, at least on the ones I've heard. And there's no attempt to match base cycling cadence with the music, something that makes spinning more enjoyable.
totally agree. I did an old Spinervals this week and remembered why I don't use it more often. The music is horrible. It sounds like shopping mall music - horrible. I think the newer ones give you a music off option, which is the only way I will do spinervals.
