What's wrong with a DVD-R?

I'm thinking of getting KatMoJam in Mary's sale but it's a DVD-R. What is the difference between a DVD and DVD-R? Do they play the same? Thanks!

DVD-Rs play the same as pressed DVDs, but can degrade over time. If you have the software, you can always make a backup file on your computer.

Some machines seem to be finicky and not play DVD-Rs.

Thanks! I don't know if I'm intrigued enough to buy if there might be issues.

I'm sure you'll get lots of answers. I will say that in years of use, I've never had a problem with any dvd-r.

One more thing: I've also heard DVD-Rs are more delicate and can get scratched more easily. Not sure how true that is.

I've also never had a problem and never had I guess long enough to see what the problem would be. If there is, just send it back.

I purchased a DVD-r some time ago and it degraded after about a year or a year and a half. Fortunately, it was re-released as a pressed DVD so I bought a new copy.

I was a little confused by the title of this thread. A pressed DVD is what you want. A DVD-r is not pressed and it's the kind that has troubles. I don't think there's any such thing as a pressed DVD-r.

Thanks. I didn't really know the difference. I've never bought anything in that format but I remembered that many VFers prefer not to buy DVD-R.
