On a similar note, I know that most POWER Yoga workouts involve salutations/vinyasas....BUT.... is there such a thing as POWER Yoga without salutations/vinyasas???? I'd be curious....and very interested if so.

Sun salutations and vinyasas are not the same thing. I'm sure there are power yoga videos with no or few sun salutes -not that I know what they are. But power yoga/flow yoga pretty much means there will be vinyasa. Vinyasa means linking the breath to the movement, so I think it's almost definitional that power yoga will have vinyasa of some description.

Yoga for Every Body by bodywisdommedia has many practices, and most of the ones I tried don't have sun sals, some fo the workouts seem more like stretching than yoga to me, and when she does include ss's there are only one or two, not endless.

It's been a long time since I did the Yoga Complete for Weight Loss, but I seem to remember all the practices having some version of ss's. I'm sure Sharon has a much more recent memory than me though.

This made me LOL. I didn't notice the date until I read this last post, then I was cracking up that you have such a hatred for sun salutations that you would revive a near decade old thread!

That is interesting, because my blood pressure is low and I get dizzy during sun salutations and I never saw a connection..

I think at this point it's unlikely I'll change my mind about them!

Bikram and Bikram-type practices do not have sun sals. A couple that I like a lot are The Barkan Method by Jimmy Barkan, and Tony Sanchez's Yoga Challenge I. Raquel Welch has the full Bikram practice on VHS (not available on DVD).

I second Total Yoga Earth by Tracey Rich and Ganga White. *Extremely* modified sun sals and long holds.

Kundalini yoga practices do not, as a rule, include sun sals. In my teacher training, we used them for warmups sometimes; they were not part of any yoga set in our manual, and other manuals that I have.

My favorite style of yoga. No inversions, no sore wrists, no dizziness but still pretty challenging. I do it at home, I could never take the heat of an actual class. I love the poses, and the Raquel practice is, simply, perfect!
