I don't get sciatica, but I do get hip/SI joint and lower back pain from time to time...who knows, maybe it is sciatica - but I always pictured it to be pain that shoots down your leg, which I don't have, thankfully~

Anyway - this is a good routine - Jessica is a PT, but like so many things in life, we are all so different, and what works for one doesn't work for another, but this may help:

You are definitely not alone w/ back, hip, etc. pain!

I haven't had sciatica either, but I've dealt with piriformis issues for several years, and I believe it's related to the sciatic nerve. And lately my lower back is getting really tight and sore from sitting too long. Two workouts have worked like magic for me:

James Knight--Gentle Yoga through Somatic Exploration (clip here). I do the Lower Extremities section. Note: it's a DVD-R.
Viniyoga Therapy for Low Back, Sacrum & Hips

Hope you find something that works for you!

Tammy, sorry you are hurting!

I get occasional hip pain, but it is from a torn labrum.

Jane Adams has a really nice lying pose practice that focuses on reclining leg and hip exercises. It's on her Yoga for Beginners workout. If you have Jane's workouts already, it's the one with the deer in the background that comes around while she's on the floor.

I had bad sciatic nerve pain from (of all things) Slim Series and Slim in 6 workouts. I think it was doing all those squats and lunges at such a quick pace that did me in. And, I'm sure I wasn't doing the necessary stretching in my rotation, either. It can also start to act up if I do too much indoor walking (Leslie Sansone) or stepping workouts.

Now that I'm in my late 50's stretching and yoga are now my primary focus.

Pam - I second the Jane Adams recommendation - those are really lovely practices - beautiful scenery, too.
