Need an inexpensive yoga mat that doesn't stink

I used to have a Manduka eKO SuperLite Travel Mat, which folds up so tiny I lost it. I really need a new mat, but every time I've tried to replace it, the mat I get is smelly. I found this Gaiam Yoga Mat on Amazon for $17 which claims to be pthalate free, but does that mean it won't stink? Can someone recommend an inexpensive, non-stinky yoga mat? It doesn't have to be super think or anything. Just something I won't slip on.

I really can't spend upwards of $40 for a yoga mat right now, but I really need to get back to my yoga practice...

Gaiam mats are available at Target, I believe. Can you go to Target, so that you're sure you're getting one that doesn't smell?

Do you have Ross or TJ Maxx near you? Both usually have yoga mats for around ten dollars or even less.

The yoga mats at Five Below are $5.

Thanks for the tips y'all.

@laurajhawk: That's a good idea. I think I'll stop into a Target when I head into Portland this week.

@sherry & jo: The problem with those cheap mats is they stink (unless someone knows of one specifically that doesn't.) Back when I was flush with cash and a job, I went through two cheapie mats trying to save money that ended up stinking. Then I got my beloved but long lost Manduka.

I don't blame you for not wanting a stinky mat!

I don't know if this is nationwide, but the Kohl's near me has Gaiam yoga mats. If you have a Kohl's credit card, you could also use one of their coupons. They are very good with returns.

I hope you can find something.

Not exactly cheap but under $40.00 and a really good non-slip mat without the smell:

I have that Aurorae mat and I really like it.
I bought it from Amazon and the company that makes them contacted me through Amazon to make sure I was happy with the mat. It did not smell at all.

This cracked me up! That is so me! I have misplaced a wrap and a brace, and my brother said he couldn't believe I have any that I had off long enough to lose!

in case you can't find one without "that smell!", this might help:
