I just started a novel written by rocker Rick Springfield several years ago called Magnificent Vibration. The first few pages were hilarious...but the main character's obsession with sex is getting a little tedious.

Y'all, I've been on the library wait list for a (new-release) ebook since May. Like, 6 months. Well, my turn finally came up, I clicked on the link that says "yes, check out book" (or whatever it says)....but came to an error screen.

It turns out that my county government's computer systems are all down due to a "cyber event." (Hacking? Virus?) Anyway, that includes the library, and since I started the loan, my time is ticking away, but I can't access it.

*sigh* Trivial, I know, but gahhhhhh!

Aww, Alison, that is disappointing.

That's not trivial! I would totally be upset by that. If the system is down, they should stop the clock on your loan.

I loved Devil in the White City. I always thought it would make a good movie! The Olmstead book sounds good.

Didn't he have a sex addiction in real life?

I'm reading The Book of Lost Names now and hate it. It's rated highly so I don't know if it's just me, but the writing is getting on my last nerve and makes me want to throw the book violently against the wall. I can't stand the characters either. I'm 1/3 through the book and am thinking of just stopping.

I just finished Nonviolent Communication and Someone Could Get Hurt: A Memoir of Twenty-First-Century Parenthood. I liked them both.

I was just coming in to report that I read this book and liked it. I do believe that life is too short to read books I don't enjoy, so I'd move on.

I am reading The Exiles by Christina Baker Kline and like that one as well. Her books are hit-or-miss with me and this is one that I have stuck with.

And I'm soooo excited because I just got The Return of the Thief. Have you read it yet, Alison?

This one is on my to-read list. I've read two of her books and liked them.

I just bought the Kindle book “The Undoing” that was the basis of the HBO series starring Nicole Kidman, Hugh Grant, and Donald Sutherland. It just started airing last week. It looks interesting, and I have a few weeks to read it, lol.

I like The Exiles because it is about a situation in history that I've never read about, women convicts sent from England to Australia in the mid-1800s. I know it's fictional, but the book reads like she did a lot of research.
