Do you work out when you have cold?

Just curious what other people do when they have a cold. My scheduled workout tonight is part of a 6 week class at my gym, but it's a tough class and I don't know if I have it in me to go this hard yet.

Do you continue to workout as usual, just scale it back, or rest completely? I am on day 4 of the cold, and feel like I should be good to go by my next scheduled class on Wednesday. Just not sure if I am being a baby about not going to class tonight.

I think you should stay home as a courtesy to the other people in the class, so you do not risk infecting them.

I listen to my body, as long as I am not feverish and its only from the neck up I work out. I probably wouldn't do an Insanity type workout, but anything else I'd go for it and scale back when needed.

If I develop a cold I mostly rest as I need my energy to recover. Though I have been known to do a light workout when I have almost recovered from a cold

I usually let my body rest, otherwise I end up worse off!

Good point, this also crossed my mind, but forgot to mention it in my original post, I'm not sure how long colds are contagious for, but I think for this reason alone, I'll stay home.

Maybe today will be a Leslie day or Start Here just to do something.

Thanks!

Sounds like a good plan. Hope you are fully recovered soon!

If it is just above the neck and I am not really feeling that bad and can actually breathe, then yes I will exercise. In fact I have been fighting a cold for a week now. I exercise at home so the only people I could possibly infect is my family. But I agree with the others that if you exercise in a group setting, then you could possible infect other people. Other than that just go by how you feel. You know if you feel like working out or not. There will always be tomorrow.

I usually take the time off unless it is a very mild cold with only a little scratching and sniffling. If I have a really sore throat, a totally stuffed up head, etc. I don't work out. I figure I need the energy to recuperate. It's so miserable to exercise with a cold too - it isn't pleasurable at all.
