Don't forget to figure your Maiximum heart rate. This is the maximum you can go over your range. Your age - 220.

plus or minus 11 bpm. So in Janine's case, her true max HR could actually be as high as 177 or as low as 155. That's why you can use it as a starting point for calculations for target heart rate, but then modify with perceived exertion, as others have mentioned.

Me too! In fact, I was glad at least to see that the range recommended for the OP was relatively low, because at least this is closer to where I am usually at. But I think the low end of my range is currently 116 (I can't remember if that is 60 or 65%), and sometimes it is difficult for me to maintain! Part of it might have to do with some chest strap problems, as there are times when my HR is in the 130s and I feel pretty comfortable, put I'm not sure what exactly the complete explanation is.
