How do you store your dumbbells?

Hello...

Just curious how you all store your dumbbells. I have them all lined up on the floor, which has left permanent indents in the carpet. Next week we are getting new carpet and I want to be kind to it so I am looking for ideas on how to store my dumbbells without wrecking the new carpet right away. Not sure if I should buy a piece of board to set them on or buy a dumbbell rack.

I also thought about setting them on my step, or using a shoe rack?

Thanks in advance for suggestions or ideas.

I have one of those pyramid-style dumbbell racks - it hold 5 pairs of dumbbells.

We invested in a three-tier dumbbell rack a few years ago--love it! Putting it together was a breeze (because I made DH do it ). Actually, he says it was easy to put together.

Taramisu, I like the idea of a shoe rack. Like you, I line up my dvds on the floor, and it has left marks in the carpet. Hmmm...I have been wondering what to get myself for my promotion. Maybe it will be a weight rack and some 30 pound dumbbells . Thanks for the idea!

Don't mean to be so OT from OP's thread, but congrats on your promo, Bubbles!! ::hug:: Way to go!!

To not be a complete heel and add to the topic at hand, I think a DB rack (or shoe rack! -- great idea!) is your best bet at minimizing carpet damage; anything that will condense their weight but minimize surface area. It'll do more damage to the spots on the carpet that the apparatus sits on, but it'll keep the indentations from being more widespread, like what your situation is currently.

I have a metal dumbbell rack with 2 levels on it, not hard to put together (I did it). I have some DB that won't fit on it, either because of the size/shape of the dumbbell or I don't have enough room, so I store those right under the DB rack.

Mine is similar to this one, though this isn't the exact one I have, i don't think. I have had mine a long time.

On amazon search, they have some 3 tiered ones. If I bought now, I think I would get one of those.

I currently have mine laid out on the closet floor in my bedroom and move them around slightly when I replace them to help with the carpet dents. Having said that, the carpet is old and will need to be replaced in the not too distant future (assuming I can ever make a decision on what to replace it with ), so I don't worry about the dents right now.

I like the shoe rack idea if you can find something that works. In years past, I've used one of those mats that you put under a piece of cardio equipment (like a treadmill or elliptical). It wasn't terribly thick (think of a larger, really heavy duty yoga mat) and I didn't get dents.

Let us know what you decide to go with.

This is what I have and I love it. It's so handy to have my weights nearby where I can grab them and set them down during my workout. Before, I had them on puzzle mats and I think they did a good job of protecting the carpet from dents.

Puzzle mats! That is a really good idea! I had some years ago but sold them. I would only need one mat though. I don't have that many dumbbells (set of 3s, 5s, 8s, 10s, 12s, 15s and 1 20 lb bell which I am contemplating getting rid of. I don't lift super heavy any more and I can't remember the last time I picked up my 20 pounder.

I tried my shoe rack earlier and that isn't going to work. The weight rack posted earlier is really nice too. I think if I got a heavy duty mat that would do the trick though.

Thanks all for the posts and ideas!

And yes...congrats to you Bubbles on your promotion! I think a gift is in order!
