Exclamation Peloton Tread+ safety issues (children and pets)...

One child was killed last month and there are other injuries being reported happening to children and pets.

https://www.cnbc.com/2021/04/17/us-c...treadmill.html

This article has a link to a very graphic and disturbing video of a small child getting stuck under a Tread+.

Where were the parents?

Anyhoo, be careful out there!

That’s so sad and the video was hard to watch. Never occurred to me that a small child could get caught under a moving treadmill.

The video is hard to watch but who was recording it? do they have a video camera in the room just recording? Plus couldn't this happen with any treadmill and not just Peloton?

Yes! This type of thing can happen with many types of fitness equipment if children and pets are unsupervised. Mike Tyson's young daughter died from a treadmill accident.

Absolutely!

It looks like playing on/around the Tread+ was an everyday activity for the children in the video.

And, as Rhonda mentioned, why bother to have a video camera monitoring the room if no one is watching it? That kid screamed for a long time and no one came to help...

We had a Precor 9.35 treadmill (non-folding) that was a monster at over 300 lbs. The Peloton Tread+ is 430 lbs plus another 25 lbs for the touchscreen monitor. The kid in the video slipped right under like it was nothing.

It looks like the ball going under the Tread+ was the only reason he was not crushed.

I'm not willing to watch the video, but can't help wondering if the increased numbers of this kind of incident is just due to the larger numbers of people owning treadmills altogether??

The gym I used to go to had a pretty strict no-kids-under-13 policy in the treadmill and weights area.

I'd be willing to bet a lot of people haven't give the safety issues enough thought.
