Another big believer in BHRT here.

And in the diva cup. That little marvel was a game changer when my periods were so heavy that a tampon wouldn't last an hour.

I've tried numerous progesterone creams (even Ona's high dose one), wild yam creams, estrone cream, and progestin creams from an endocrinologist. Again, apologies to orig poster TinaT for the hijack!
Not that this is any of my business BUT....were the "naturopathic physicians" actual medical doctors? I found in my little quest, there's a big difference. I too ended up with every kind of vitamin, extract, pill, etc. that would supposedly work until I found an actual doctor who specializes in BHRT. Either way, hope you find an answer soon.

Bought and read the Blood Type Diet, tried all the suggestions for my blood type and have been on an anti-inflammatory diet for years. Nothing has stopped my symptoms. I switch up my diet about every two months (still trying to eat clean) to try different things, and each gives me worsening symptoms.

Have made and tried and bought several types of green smoothies, and they only make my symptoms worse unfortunately. I get migraines and extreme breast swelling for days after having a green smoothie.

I appreciate the suggestions, but like I said, I've tried nearly everything that's out there for excess estrogen in perimenopause, but my body just refuses to cooperate. It's so utterly frustrating -- it's like a second full-time job trying to figure out why nothing helps. And the worst part is I likely have more years of this since I'm still having fairly regular cycles.
Yeah, what you are saying sounds like classic estrogen dominance from what I've learned from Teresa Tapp and the Period Repair Manual (PRM) book. In addition, from what you have said it may be that you didn't try long enough. You said you tried each diet 2 months, but these things can take at least 3 months to work because that is the time it take for a new cycle of eggs to come up. This was explained in the PRM book. You also said you have a pantry full of supplements and bioidenticals that didn't work. Again, if you didn't give them a chance and quit them too early, they can't work. Finally your symptoms from green smoothies is expected because they are very detoxifying, and excess estrogen is eliminated via the liver then the bowels (T explains this I think in her hormone video). That means it will be uncomfortable at first before it gets better. It also means it is important to eat a high fiber diet or the estrogen dumped by the liver gets reabsorbed. I make every green smoothie with an apple for insoluable fiber ("bulk") in addition to another fruit with soluable fiber (plus other fruits that may be lower fiber). For dinner I usually include brown rice and drink plenty of water.

I know it can be frustrating, and it sounds really overwhelming. Also this has gotten way out of bounds in terms of VF rules. If you want, we can talk about it more by PM.

I've posted here and on cathe.com about my journey through menopause. I am 52 and was in full blown menopause at 45. I've had to learn a lot along the way. I've gained weight, lost about 1/3 of my hair density (in some areas way more than that), had sleep issues, hot flashes, bloating etc. For me this is what has worked:

seeing an experienced naturopath who works with a women's health doctor. it's a bit costly but worth it.

dramatically limiting my intake of simple carbs, sugar, alcohol, fruit etc as I hot flash right away after eating these items. no sugar = no hot flashes (not even fruit). no grains = no bloating.

i only use bio-identical progesterone - calms the system. pill form over cream works better (well researched data).

i am now on a thyroid med which keeps my hair on my head and gives me lots of energy (i was a very tired person until that pill). anyone can PM

this post might not be allowed so.....

good luck to you all. it's a tough journey for many of us others, not so much.

Beyond.omega--Again, thanks for the suggestions, but like I said, it's something I've been dealing with for 20 years now, and is worse now because of menopause. My point being not everything works for everyone. I am glad it worked for you, but I had a different experience.

And thanks all for the other tips and support. Again, sorry to TinaT.

Lori ~ It's amazing how our bodies respond to some things and at other times nothing at all. I'm in the "nothing at all" phase as well. Definitely overhauling my diet. I'm tired of spending money on supplements, etc. So my hope is that I can at least minimize the symptoms of menopause at best.

I can control my intake and what exercise looks likes. I'll start there. Sleep is also a priority for obvious and already talked about reasons. After that, I'll add on what I need based on my bodies response to intake, exercise and sleep.

I hope you get some relief soon.

I'm in the peri-meno years and I completely understand. It's not fun!

However, please don't discount the role that STRESS plays on our bodies, too. My body went through some CRAZY things when my mom and my godmother both died fairly suddenly when I was 25. You sound like you're going through so much. Have you tried doing some yoga or meditation? That helps me somewhat during periods of stress.

I'm almost ten years post-menopausal, and nothing has improved for me. I'm one who had disastrous results from BHRT. I know it has done wonders for many. Just be aware and make sure if you try them that you work with someone very knowledgeable.

Thanks for your response. I'm sorry you haven't improved in all this time. It seems like women never get a break!

I can't do any HRT at all because I have a history of blood clots. I was also unable to take any kind of hormonal birth control. So my options are already limited.
