A vidiot's response to injury...

My girls and I went for a walk at a paved trail today. We walk there several times a week, a nice 1 mile loop. They've recently re-asphalted the path, so the walking surface is several inches above the ground. You see where I'm going with this, right?

Somehow (talking and joking with DDs), my left foot stepped off the edge of the path. Left ankle rolled and right knee/shin goes down to the pavement (also turned right ankle going down). And the momentum carried me forward until I was full sprawl, chest down on the ground.

First thought: ow.
Second thought: who saw that? (Just my kids, lol, and it's not the first time they've seen me wipe out!)
Third thought: man, I've been doing so good with my workouts! Hope I'm not hurt! (Knee hurts but I think I'm okay.)

My girls were caught somewhere between horrified and snickering.
Anyone else go straight to "aw man! but my workouts!"

Oh yeah. I have such a terrible time maintaining a routine. Injury while working out? Sigh.

I hope you're feeling better soon.

Every. single. time. It's always my first thought.

Hope you're ok and recover quickly.

I rolled my ankle off the step once during a workout. After about 15 seconds of “what just happened?”, I crawled back to the step (think teen horror movie crawl) propped my legs on the step and did abs!! Later that day I went to the ER!! But not until I finished my workout.

LOL!

We did have to finish our mile after my tumble -- we were about halfway through.

Oh, definitely! That's the worst part about being injured for me, aside from the injury itself sometimes. lol

I read your title and thought, "Oh no! She's just coming back to workouts, too." Of course, I do hope you're ok, but that was my first reaction. "but her workouts!" haha Fingers crossed that you'll be ok and that only your ego was hurt a little.

I know! That was my first response, too! Like, I just got back in the groove!

DH said he watched a comedian once who said the way you know you're old: when you fall down and no one laughs. Well...my kids and I both laughed so I guess I'm still young!

haha, that's so true! My MIL (soon to be 70) literally fell off her rocker last week and when she described what happened during a video meeting, we all got quiet and asked how she was. She said she was ok... then we laughed. We said my FIL is going to have to seatbelt her into the chair. My SIL suggested a bubble wrap skirt. I didn't have bubble wrap but I had air pillows so I got that out to demonstrate how a skirt would look. lol

I forgot to comment on muggle's reply earlier. It would have been this:
You are one dedicated exerciser.

LOL! Your thought process ran exactly like mine does:
  • oh man that hurt
  • did anyone see me and I have to get up really quickly so no one will see me
and
  • well crap, I was doing so good with my workouts.
