Tony Horton loses his cool during chat and unloads - whew!

I was taken aback reading Tony Horton's blog where he actually posted the entire transcripts from his Monday night blog - the one where he completely lost his cool and unloaded on his team beachbody and million dollar body constituents:
http://tonyhorton.blogspot.com/

I'm sorry, his message (toughlove, give up the whining, make the effort or shut up) could have been effective without the full frontal attack - at one point he states to those who don't want to log their food intake: SHUT UP YOU WHINY LITTLE BI*****!

He criticizes people who buy silly fitness gear like push-up bars & expect the gear to do the work for them - doesn't BeachBody sell a ton of that stuff?

My goodness, I remember when Carl Daikeler (BeachBody CEO) posted on HIS blog that Tony Horton himself had confessed to him his problems sticking with a fitness plan during a flight they had together.

I wonder if anyone in the million dollar body program is going to complain about his method - not the end message (no more excuses) but how he presented it.

Maybe some folks find it motivating - what do you think, is Tony's message motivating or offensive to you? Advance warning: the post is 350 lines long...

I didn't read the whole thing but what stood out to me right away were the caps. Never a good thing.

I don't happen to find that it'd be motivating to most people. The bottom line is that weight loss, and especially maintenance, is very hard. Often people who have unresolved weight issues are sensitive. If Tony was known as the tough love type (at least regarding his workout dvds), that might be one thing but he has a nice demeanor on them. Maybe he's just like this behind the scenes. Maybe he just had a bad day? Maybe he has an arrogance to him which prevents him from fully understanding what the people who go to him for help are actually going through. He has a lot of information and it's very good but you have to have an understanding and compassion with people, too.

As an aside, I've never written down what I eat and it's never been an issue for me. Everyone's different and he has to realize that there isn't just one way to do things.

Aside #2...I had to laugh when he says "choose patience over rage." Hmm, does the word hypocrite come to anyone else's mind?

Well, jeez, it sounds like Tony needs some white bread and chocolate, among other things.

I think he just told people the way it is and what they have to do to get the body or reach the level of fitness they want, no ifs ands, buts, or excuses!

One of my pet peeves is people complaining about things they can change but don't; they just continue to b*&^% and whine about it. I believe that's where Tony is coming from and most likely has seen and heard enough of it and said enough is enough!!

I've never read or been a part of any of Tony's chats so I have no idea what he is usually like. He does say that he *could have been nicer* in the opening paragraph.

Overall, I don't really have a problem with his message. He's right. People want all sorts of changes(lose weight, tone up, feel better, etc.) but a lot of people don't want to have to do any real work. The minute it gets *hard* they bail. They balk at even the smallest sacrifice.

Probably the biggest challenge is finding like-minded, supportive people. When you don't have friends or family that work out or eat healthy, they can make you feel really bad for doing so. But, in the end, it's your life. You can't let other people control you.

As for his talk about infomercial type *equipment* I thought his point was that an *ab chair* and the like isn't going to change your whole body(like I guess they say it will.) Not that individual pieces of euipment aren't valuable, but that it's more than just crunches or whatever.

I don't know if he needed to call people B*****S. But I don't disagree with his point and, on some level, it probably has to be frustrating to work in a field where he is trying to *help* people and these same people just won't do what it takes to succeed.

My two cents...

I agree with Peanut. What came across to me is the frustration he feels. In that rant, he mentioned seeing people at conventions who "used to be fit".

And don't forget that Tony probably has a lot of testosterone.

Anyway, I gotta get to the gym.

Hmmm. It's hard to tell tone from reading text. Too bad no video. It's possible with Tony especially he was just trying to make a joke that fell flat.

I need to be yelled at about my over-eating right now, so I'm gong to take from this what I want (and pick that book up from the library) and leave out any nonsense that my problems with over-eating might somehow make me a whiny b*tch. I'm never swayed by name calling, since it seems like people only resort to it when they can't make their point through better means.

You know, earlier this week I found my favorite artist (ben folds) left his wife & childrens' mother for a younger woman (yoga instructor from a retreat he went to with his wife), married her and then recorded a rather hate-filled CD against his ex. It reminded me of previous discussions here on VF about whether you can enjoy the product while not caring for the artist personally. I sold the CD.

I love me some Tony Horton and I understand he gets frustrated in people like me who do all the working out but can't get the other part nailed down (but I don't blame him that I didn't lose weight with P90X; that was my fault). I do like that Neena who asserted herself. I wouldn't have been able to do that. Good for her.

I personally like what Tony said! It sounded just like him!! I don't find it offensive at all, because it is the truth! Sounded like a great, no nonsense coach!

Thanks for sharing the site! It was fun to read!
