Jessica Smith Feel Good Fusion question

Jessica does a move where she clasps her hands behind her back and then bends forward and her arms swing over her head. My arms will barely go a few inches above my back. What I’m wondering is if this is a move that can get better with practice or is it one of those things you can either do or not? (I mentioned it to a friend who said, “Oh sure - I can do that”, but I’m not sure I believe her because I doubt she’s actually tried doing it.)

I use a strap to get a little more mobility in my shoulders to do that move. I've always found it challenging.

We all have a different range of motion. I just do what I can. My arms can’t go nearly as high as hers, and I doubt they ever will.

I use a resistance band and it feels so much better than trying to do it without it.

I find that move hard. My arms don’t go very far at all. I presume it’s tight shoulders but I don’t really know why. I have never been able to get them to move much in that position.

Do it the way that works for you: a strap, band, towel. Whatever works!

We're all different, and though you may never go very far, you will improve. In any case the key is to feel the stretch; it doesn't really matter how far you go.

I tend to have a ton of mobility in my shoulders and upper body and can do a lot of those things easily, but when it comes to lower body flexibility I'm horrible! The stretch where you sit with your legs apart and reach for one foot, go to the middle, then go to the other foot? I can reach out very far...my back and arms are fine, but my legs are much closer to straight out in front of me than straight out to the sides! Every body is so different

Yes we are all different and it will improve over time with practice. I have quite flexible shoulders and hips, but it’s taken me years of yoga & Essentrics to attain good hamstring flexibility. I think hip & shoulder mobility and flexibility in particular are very much related to bone structure. Paul Grilley gets into explaining that in his yin yoga dvd tutorials.
