Getting to Know VF

Usually, I start a "getting to know you" thread, but thought it might be fun to do a "getting to know VF" thread instead where people can post thoughts and tips about how to best experience this site. Feel free to just post something or you can use the questions below:

1. How did you find VF?

2. What is your favorite tip about using the Forum on VF?

3. What advice would you give a newbie about being a member here at VF?

1. How did you find VF? I saw a TV infomercial on The Firm and jumped on the Internet to research it. I stumbled across VF in that process. I did not buy the infomercial set, but did join VF.

2. What is your favorite tip about using the Forum on VF? On the blue/purple bar across the top of the screen, starting with My VF and Support VF, there is an item further to the right - New Posts. When I come to the forum, I hit that link to show me all the threads in all of the categories that have been posted to since my last visit. It is an incredible time saver for me in reading new threads. I've seen people seemingly stuck in the General Discussion and I've wanted to yell "Hit New Posts!".

3. What advice would you give a newbie about being a member here at VF? Jump in and participate. This is a friendly place! Oh, and as part of that, find a check-in, if you want more personal connections.

I always love your getting to know you posts!

1. How did you find VF? I think I was looking for workout dvd reviews.

2. What is your favorite tip about using the Forum on VF? Tag your posts! Makes things so much easier to find when you search for it later.

3. What advice would you give a newbie about being a member here at VF? Join a checkin. That way, if you are shy you can talk to a small group of folks first.

These are always fun!

1. How did you find VF? I was looking for workout dvd reviews.

2. What is your favorite tip about using the Forum on VF? Under "Thread Tools" near the top of the page, is the option to email the thread to someone. I often will email threads to myself so I can find them easily again when I'm researching things.

3. What advice would you give a newbie about being a member here at VF? Read all kinds of posts, even if you think you're not interested in that kind of workout - I've learned so much that way.

1. How did you find VF?
I had contacted Collage Video about trading videos and they pointed me to VF. Been hooked ever since.

2. What is your favorite tip about using the Forum on VF?
Everything really. I find the site really easy to use and I love all the different Forum topics instead of posting all in one group. I like the Clothing, Shoes, Equipment, Gear group for finding recommendations for new gear.

3. What advice would you give a newbie about being a member here at VF?
Read the posts! There is so much good advice!
Don't read the posts! You will seriously be enabled! ;-)

1. How did you find VF?

I wanted to purchase the Winsor Pilates tapes (yes tapes) from the original infomercial and was looking for more information.

2. What is your favorite tip about using the Forum on VF?

I second tagging discussions. And learn to do tag searches. I find tags to be more user friendly than searching for words.

Also - VF'ers use acronyms all the time. Don't hesitate to ask "what does Y4SR mean?"

3. What advice would you give a newbie about being a member here at VF?

Put your credit cards in the freezer and always wait for a sale.

1. How did you find VF? Way back in the mid 90s, I found the link on the original Firm Forum.

2. What is your favorite tip about using the Forum on VF? Using tag searches, even though sometimes I get odd results lol

3. What advice would you give a newbie about being a member here at VF? Don't be afraid to ask questions. Even if sometimes the answer will be "just do a search" Someone will be nice and answer your question and sometimes do a search and find a thread that really answers your question.

1. How did you find VF?
I was trying to learn yoga at home, discovered I liked vinyasa/power yoga style, but it was impossible to follow from a book. I found some DVDs I really liked (library & Sam's Club) and wanted more; read every yoga DVD review on Amazon and STILL wanted more; and found VF!

2. What is your favorite tip about using the Forum on VF?
Use tag search! And remember to tag your threads.

3. What advice would you give a newbie about being a member here at VF?
Try to purchase based on what you like and what you need - not what other people like and need. We're all different and if you buy everything that somebody on VF loves, you'll run out of money in about twenty minutes.
