Interesting! I didn't realize high rep workouts would have enough reps to cause over use injuries! Were you doing a LOT of this type of workout?
Since I seem to get injured with low rep high weight workouts I have recently switched to high reps and find I need to use REALLY low weights compared to what I had been using, whereas the instructors use what to me would be medium high. I would like more information on the dangers of high rep/low weight. Will google it now. |

Did the doc and PT say you could do slow and heavy instead of high rep and lighter? I know the two methods work different types of muscle fibers, but I would think they would both aggravate unstable joints - that the heavier weight would have the same effect on the joints as more reps

hattie: THANK YOU!!!
I'm going to miss some of these it's my joint instability that's the problem (and age) high rep low weight is great! and as far as I know not dangerous in any way unless you have my physiological peculiarities (I suspect my inherent klutzyness adds to this mess) the heavy weight recommendation is to strengthen the (muscles around) the joints. the muscles have to take over connective duty for slack tendons (or is it ligaments? which one is bone to bone?) I'll post more info as I get it
