Can you use foam roller on calves?

Can you use the foam roller on tight calves? Has anyone done it? Is there a best technique?

You can, but I find it's easier to use a lacrosse ball or one of those stick massagers. With a foam roller, you can sit on your bottom with your legs straight out, put one foot on top of the other, and roll.

This video shows some ideas.

I find with a lacrosse you can into the center of the calf as well as on the sides and that gets out more of the knots.

And if your calf is too tender for the lacrosse ball at first then..start out using the foam roller or those same moves Pratima references using a larger medicine ball or tennis ball.

I have to do that sometimes.

I find foam rolling calves difficult to do because of the upper body strength required. I prefer using those rolling pin massaging sticks.

The Melt Method Lower Body Compression has a segment where you lie on your back and roll the calves. Put one leg on top of the other for added compression.
