Our secret is out. Is this a good thing?

As home exercisers we enjoy our dvd's and downloads and have our preferred instructors and routines. We are knowledgeable and share our finds and ideas.

Just for fun I sometimes read the comments accompanying streaming workouts. Lately there have been many new ones from people who are in quarantine. They think this is great! Look at us! We can workout from home! Let's start a club! As if this is all new.

This might open up a new world of even more online content, but that might attract more amateur instructors who don't really know what a home exerciser needs or wants. Or how to make a video.

I feel as if our little world has been discovered and the tourists are invading A relative sent out a link to an online program. I sent back a picture of my workout area including the dvd shelves

Maybe I'm being overprotective and should be more hospitable. Do you think this will be good/bad/neither in the long run, or it will blow over as soon as people return to the gym? And for the record, it doesn't really bother me *that* much

I think that, after the quarantine, the die hard vidiots will continue and the johnny-come-lately will die out.

I think you're right. There are A LOT of people who try working out at home and find they really want/need the gym/studio/class experience. I think we are all kind of rare in that we can motivate and even enjoy working out to videos at home.

This is going to blow over. I'll keep an eye out on eBay and Craig's List and Facebook MarketPlace for discount gear

I belong to the Les Mills on demand Facebook group. There are a ton of new members who joined when their gyms closed. Some are loving the flexibility of exercising at home and said they will keep using it after the gyms reopen. Others said they miss the friends and instructors and that they need motivation from exercising at the gym.

There are tons of requests from people trying to find equipment.

Ooh, good point, bubbles! Actually I thought the other day it's a little like New Year's and won't last for a lot of people but your comment pointed out that the number of people buying is probably bigger than New Year's.

I feel like a lot depends on whether people are more introverted or extroverted. I'm majorly introverted. I take a community ed class every few years to shake it up but some days I have go force myself to go. Give me home workouts alone any day! (Although I will say, I would love it if hubby worked out with me.)

Vantreesta I'm so introverted that I prefer Big Bubble to work out on his own . I want solitude when I work out. Even when I was in group training (yoga classes, basic training, classes at base gym) I mentally tuned out everyone else there. I didn't talk to anyone before or after class.

I never thought about it, but you're right! I too hope it blows over and that I can snag me a stellar deal on 30-pound dumbbells I've needed for ages.

Just wondering if there's been an uptick in membership here? Does anyone know?

Well to be completely honest part of it is just that I want him to workout to be healthy. My gym is so full there's not a ton of free space. He uses that as an excuse too. Before we finished the basement and had more gym space since there weren't walls I did nag him into doing CLX with me for a while. It was pretty fun and I think helped me lift heavier, but he gave up on it. My preference would be separate gym times for us and walks together. So far no dice on either.

I don't talk much to people when I take classes either. If they want to talk fitness or dogs I'm much more likely but small talk, forget it.

I do puzzles regularly and the same thing has been happening with them. Puzzles companies have had to quit taking orders because the demand has been so great. I expect there will be plenty available at thrift shops and different marketplaces in the future.
