Question Have you wall-mounted a flat-screen TV, without professional help?

I have a 42" TV that would look good over the fireplace, and I'm curious how "involved" it would be for me and my husband to mount it on the wall. I saw a Home Depot video that makes it look easy, but of course they always do! I would prefer one of those floating-arm mounts to make it easier to access the back, but how secure are they? Would the TV bounce around during a workout? TIA!

My husband & I mounted our TV to the wall. We used a floating-arm mount. It is very secure and I love that I can turn the TV towards the kitchen and watch TV while I cook, clean, etc.

Make sure you have the right tools (such as a level, drill, stud-finder, screwdriver...), measure everything twice (lol), and watch a few different how-to videos.

You can do it!

Yes. Hanging the mount is not hard -- as tiletha444 said, have your tools ready and measure twice. The awkward part is getting the TV onto the wall mount. You definitely need two people to do this.

Now if you wanted to install an electrical outlet near the TV wall mount so the wires were not visible, or a cable junction box, that would probably require a professional.

DH flat-mounted a tv over our fireplace, and mounted another with a floating arm (swing arm?) in our exercise room. Both were pretty easy and are very secure.
