Tips on being less sedentary

Unfortunately, my job is long hours and very sedentary. I can only take minimal breaks because I'm usually too busy. And, when, I'm not working I have alot to read/study.

I've tried taking quick walks, but probably don't do enough.

I'm basically constantly sitting; and my body is proof of it.

I know I need to get back on a regular workout schedule and healthy eating.

Any tips for people who have sedentary jobs?

thanks

The only tips I can give you are the ones you have given already
- try to work in as much movement as possible
- try to schedule in a regular workout and keep that appointment like you keep any other one. Make it at a time you know you will be able to keep it, so not 5 am if you know you won't get up, and not at 9 pm if you know you will be too tired.
- adapt your diet to your level of activity (hardest part!)

Good luck finding that balance!

Have a kettlebell at work and do swings. I am assuming you have your own office though.

I am a RN, so I walk move alot already but.......

i park the farthest spot away..i mean THE FARTHEST SPOT

i walk and tell co-workers things instead of calling the pods on the days I am stuck at a desk in charge

swap out your reg desk chair for a stability ball chair

on break, the hospital has a 5 lap=1 mile walking indoor route I do instead of talking after I eat

take a few mins and climb the stairs up several flights. one stair case is singles, the next doubles for more glute work

I am sure you are busy, but I will have to say , as an RN in a unit flooded with patients, I am pretty busy too and manage to sqeak out these suggestions fairly regularly
Good luck

Okay here is my thing.

I am trying to move more, so I walk when I can, do stairs, etc etc - however, and this is just me and my two cents - I don't mind being sedentary either. I love to read, and I love to cross stitch, both very time consuming, sit down activities. And as I invested a lot of money in them I don't really think I want give them up.

I'm a student so it's a lot of sitting down, but i do get up and move around. I work at night, but i walk around in the office. When I read or stitch I get up and twist around.

and when I work out, i work out. HARD.

So no guilts

Another idea is to get a stability ball for the office and sit on that instead of a chair from time to time. It engages the core muscles and you can easily do some core strengthening exercises while working.

The stability ball is a great idea. It's even good for watching TV at home.

I also do walking lunges up my stairs all the time. It's a great way to work the glutes,

I do have workout stations designated around my home; triceps push ups before walking upstairs, a set of kettlebell swings after I'm done on the computer, and my pull up bar is always up, so I do a pull up or chin up when I reach it.

I LOVE Zumba Youtube clips. They are great for getting in short cardio burst anytime. There are so many fantastic Zumba clips on Youtube by great instructors.

Do you watch a couple of hours of TV every night? Put a treadmill, recumbent bike (easier on the back) or elliptical machine in front of it and just exercise while you watch. Two hours of moderate cardio can easily burn around 800 calories, which is more than one meal. Do it everyday and you won't even realize you're on the machine while you watch your favorite show. Just be careful that you don't "reward" yourself afterwards or you cancel out any benefits.
