Do you clear the apps in use as well? I know when my son doesn't clear his Roblox app it drains the battery much faster than usual even when in sleep mode.

I’ve had excellent luck using chat with Amazon. I had a charging issue with an older fire. They no longer stocked that model and they gave me a whopping credit towards a new one - I think it was $70 or $80 bucks. I thought that was more than fair for device that was years old.

Yes, good point! I try to remember to clear my apps & I check my battery use to see what apps are the biggest drain on it. It also helps to streamline my notifications.

Thanks everyone for the input I really appreciate it. I'm glad no one else has had this issue.

I did a hard recharge and cleared out some apps I never use.

I got the new supposed "fast charger" and I'm trying it now.

I did contact Amazon, and of course mine is out of warranty and they don't sell new batteries for it. They applied a 15% automatic discount for when I buy a new kindle. I really didn't expect much of anything since I bought it over two years ago. I hope I can nurse this one along until the Black Friday sales if I do need a new one, since it's $50 off at that time. I really don't want to have to replace this one. It's not that old.

I'm hoping the new charger works well. I will update later.

You don’t have to wait until Black Friday. I find that Amazon has better deals on Prime Day in July!

If worst comes to worst while waiting for Black Friday you can download the Kindle app on your smartphone. I read on my phone as a backup while waiting in doctor's offices, etc.

Thank you, but I do not have a smartphone. I use the kindle mainly for internet.

Sillygirl-thank you! I forgot about that sale.

"Fast" chargers are not necessarily better and don't work/or shouldn't be used with all devices. The prime suspect is usually the cable. Charging cables are notoriously short-lived and so it's good to have extra ones on hand.

Thanks! The supposed "fast" charger is actually slower than the one that came with the kindle, so I'm sending it back. They offered a free return for it. Of course Amazon does not sell extras of the charger that came with the Kindle (sigh)......

It's usually just the cable which easily gets damaged or wears out. They're quite inexpensive and I would try that. With most chargers you can pull out the cable and switch it.
