wha....? "waist trainers"

What are these elastic things I see on people coming out of the gym?!

a new iteration on "sweating the fat out"

is it a 1/2 *ssed corset

'cause if you are going to wear a corset wear a real corset
but not while you are working out 0_o

can someone explain?

I've been wondering the same thing! I've seen a lot of buzz about these things but they seem like they would be INCREDIBLY UNCOMFORTABLE! Sorry, I can't explain the phenomenon!

Apparently we owe the waist training phenomenon to Kim Kardashian. She swears by this and has been gushing about it on social media. Many doctors have gone on record saying that this has the potential to be dangerous and yet the frenzy continues.

Women went from whalebone corsets to girdles to FREEDOM....and now backwards? No thanks, I'll do my abs/core workouts and let my waist measurement do what it wants to.

This trend reminds me of the thigh gap and "hot dog legs" frenzies, a weird fetishization of one female body part that The Selfie Crowd has decided is necessary to beauty.

Yikes- this is bizarre...

I just became aware of this when I saw on article citing physicians who warned of the dangers of these. This is just bizarre- kind of like foot binding (Asia) or neck lengthening (Africa?). I am also doubtful how effective this would even be.

Men don't do anything like this, right? I mean I can't think of anything that goes to extremes for enhancing their body. Well, I guess there are steroid and tattoos but anything else?

if it went around the mouth, I could see its effectiveness.

Kim Kardashian's body type comes with a naturally tiny waist.

Someone with a different body type, say longer legs and thinner through the hips will never have the tiny waist Kim's body type usually has. They won't have enough length between their lowest ribs and their hip bones to cinch in. Even if they had a steel banded waist trainer tightened with a winch.
