I say it is on topic. Get some Aveeno oatmeal bath powder - in fact, if the poison ivy is acute right now start with this product, Domboro - you can get it in most drug stores.

Good luck! It's the pits!

Go to the doctor. If it's real bad they will give you a steroid pack. They also have a cream. It works wonders. I know I get poison ivy all the time. The stuff you get at the drug store have never worked for me.

Oh man, I feel for you! It is the worst. I wanted to second the Aveeno oatmeal bath powder - make sure it is a coolish bath, and then pat the area dry and put on the ointment the doctor gave you. Try to keep the area clothing free as much as possible. Hang in there!

Both of my sons have awful reactions to poison ivy and usually have to get steroids from the doctor (prednisone I think). If you are having a hard time and it's getting worse don't feel bad about seeking medical attention. Each body handles it differently.

Good luck!

My co-worker got it really bad and had to go to the doctor. Was out of work for two weeks. He had never seen a case that bad. I'm pretty sure she needed steroid shots.

I have had poison ivy once in one spot, oddly enough. The home remedy stuff does not work. Made it feel worse in fact. What worked for me was the Tecnu Extreme Poison Ivy wash and regular Cortisone 10.

Steroids.

I see you aren't near the ocean because it is the best way to get rid of it.

Good luck

I had to have steroids a couple of times in my life due to poison ivy. Nowadays, I know what to look for and how to avoid it, but I still sometimes get a little bit while gardening (pulling weeds, pruning, etc.). For those little spots that I now get on my arms and hands (mostly) I like to use a combination of cortisone 10 for the itch (or Aveeno hydrocortisone cream) and caladryl to help dry up the spots (I use a store brand--it's cheaper!).

If you have large affected areas or if it is on your face, definitely get the steroid pack. That will help with the healing time and itching considerably. Still--expect to have the spots (and some itching) for a couple weeks at least. My poison ivy always seems to take forever to go away!

Good luck!

There's a product called Zanfel that gives great relief! Good luck -- it's the worst, I know!

Zanfel is great, but you have to use it early in the breakout or it doesn't work. The Aveeno bath powder helps relieve the itch.

Good luck!
