I first bought a ten pound Ader because I knew I'd get use out of it in other workouts. Decided to go that route just to see if I liked the feel of a 'real' kettlebell at all, even if the weight's a bit light for a lot of the 'real' KB moves.
This was back in the days when some of the big box stores were first trying to cash in on the KB craze, putting out KBs with handles that were way too small, badly designed, etc. (good proportions do matter quite a lot with these) Wanted to make sure I got a good one right off, just to be sure.
Branched out a bit after that and got some GoFit ones because they were local and a few heavier Aders, IIRC because there was a bit of a sale going on (I don't recall the details).
I do generally prefer the Aders; they're of excellent quality, generally speaking, but I do seem to remember needing to sand a bit of the finish on one of mine very early on. I think it was still maybe damp when it had been wrapped up, or something. A teensy bit of sanding with a bit of high grit sandpaper smoothed out whatever the issue was, it's never been an issue since then.
