I'm sorry to hear about your knee pain. In the last year or 2 I get bouts of pain from piriformis syndrome. For me the answer is always a new pair of sneakers. I try to always have a new pair of sneakers on hand to trade off to. Also I sometimes find that when it is very bad I need to take it easy for a few days and use aspirin, etc.

I'm sorry Sherry!
I know how much you enjoy your dance workouts.

I think you've gotten some great advice from folks!

Things that seem to be helping me:
  • Warming up before I do gardening and housework (weird I know)
  • Doing knee strengthening exercises
  • Foam rolling my calves and quads
  • ETA: Working out barefoot whenever possible
  • Taking a supplement

(⊃。•́‿•̀。)⊃ Sending you hugs!

So sorry you are experiencing knee pain.
DH is going through a bout of knee pain, too, and nothing is helping. I am going to give him reflexology on his feet. That seemed to help him before.

All the best...hope you find relief soon.

Sherry: I feel your pain and have been having knee pains as of late myself. Hugs to you, my friend. So far only ice and aleve have helped.

Compression sleeve

Sherry,
Sorry to hear about your achy knees, you've gotten some great advice here.

I just wanted to add a recommendation for compression sleeve-type knee braces.

I wear them during exercise and it helps support my knees, reduces swelling and prevents knee pain.

I hope you find something that helps you.

Hello! Another recommendation that you may want to test:

Anti-inflammatories: I would recommend high-dose, high-quality Omega 3s (Nordic Naturals is a favorite and I have no connection to any commodity company); but also try Glucosamine/Chondroitin and, if you can get it, Artodar. You'll have to take these for a while to notice an improvement, although fish oils can start working pretty quickly (a couple of weeks).

In the meantime, if not contraindicated - naproxen or another NSAID.

Focus on glute AND hamstring strength and looooong warm-ups.

Good luck.

Occasionally my knee will hurt. If I do knee extensions, it strengthens where the quad attaches to the knee and it's almost always better the next day. I think wall squats might do a similar thing.

I have a band I can velcro around the top of my knee that enables me to get through dance class whenever it flares up.

Dance class. I miss those.
