If Cathe And Crew Are Using 1RMs in STS...

....then why are they constantly writing down the weights they used?

If they were using a set percentage of 1RM, there would be no need to write anything down as the weight would be known beforehand.

Am I missing something by sticking to the weights prescribed by my 1RMs?

I found that I was not always able to use the suggested weights for my 1RM. Sometimes I could go heavier, sometimes I had to drop down the weight. And sometimes I couldn't complete all the reps and you're supposed to write that down, too.

Yes that is exactly what happens--totally agree.

I also think they are writing down how many reps they got, and perhaps a note or two about that specific exercises. When I did STS, I wrote things like "Go heavier next time" or "Don't forget to squeeze quads," etc. in the margins of my workout cards.

Thanks....that makes sense.

Hmmm, I think I should have been writing more stuff down.

Hi, Adam. When I did STS, I did the 6-month rotation so I did each week twice before moving to the next. I found it quite beneficial to write things down so that I knew what to expect the second time I did the workout. Also, when I got to meso 3 and Plyo Legs, I found it helpful to write down how many risers Cathe used so I could save time on set up for the next workout.

Oh, and when I used a weird weight, like 13.5 lbs or something, I would write down how I got to that weight to save time for the next workout.

Hope that helps.

I not only wrote down the weights I used but also a notation of whether the weight was too heavy or too light so I could adjust for the next workout. Even if you did the 1RM beforehand, sometimes you still have to adjust the weight during the workout.

I would make little up or down arrows and then adjust the weights for the next week. It really is helpful.
