Yes. The shortage has been on the news for a while. They're apparently trying, but can’t keep up with the demand.

A lot of Boomers had chicken pox. Every kid in my neighborhood had it at the same time. I'm not surprised they can't keep up with the demand.

I had the old one about 5 years ago. My insurance covered it. I got it at my Rite Aid pharmacy.

When I went for my flu shot at Rite Aid last October, the pharmacist recommended the new Shingrix vaccination (2 parts). I have had both shots, and it was also covered by my insurance. I am 61.

The shots made me sore, but not terribly. I worked out immediately afterwards both times, and had no issues.

Sciencelady is right, the new recommended age is 50.

My doctor recommended me to get it when I was in for my annual physical early in June but he did not have any in stock. I was at Costco last week and the pharmacist there said it was on back order. So I am waiting patiently.

Thanks very much for the replies! I'll have to check our local Costco.

I thought this new vaccine was recommended for people 50 and older?

Earlier this year CDC stated that the new drug was "licensed" for adult use 50 years and older, but their recommendation continued to be 60 years and older. On June 18, 2018 the CDC had a press release stating the recommendation is now 50 years or older with the new drug.

Here is CDC's current recommendation:https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vpd/shi...rix/index.html

How was I unaware of a new shingles vaccine? I had the other vaccine several years ago. I'm 53, but I had shingles when I was @ 37, during a particularly stressful time at work. I NEVER want to go through that again. I'll definitely be asking my doctor about it!

Thank you for the investigative work!

My husband came down with the shingles about a month ago. He got into the derm's office the very day he spotted it. Because of my compromised health issues, she advised I get the shot right away. I was 2 days away from a dr's visit myself. They didn't have it but said would call me when it came in. I went to Walgreens and Walmart and they didn't have it either.

My husband's episode cleared up but I never got a call from my dr. I don't know if my insurance would have covered it.
