Orthotics, stretching, ice, & low impact worked for me. I love my Birkenstocks, and do wear them, but when my PF flares up, as it does occasionally, I have to wear my othotics daily for a while. I have sandals that my othotics fit into quite nicely. I wore the othotics religiously when I had a bad case of PF and a heel spur a few years ago. I don't wear them all the time now, but definitely put them in my shoes when doing cardio and if I will be walking a lot.

Stretching with a resistance band using Cathe's Stretch Max w/the Band, it helps stretch my calves which tend to be tight. Also, I rolled a golf ball under my foot while standing, I could feel where it was hurting and I just rolled harder. I tried using insoles from the store that was supposed to be for Plantar Faciitis but it didn't do anything for me.

I wear shoes all the time from morning until night and I don't know if that is good thing or a bad thing. Do you guys wear shoes all the time as well?

Working out barefoot. I don't do any high impact, except on my rebounder, but strength training with heavy (at least heavy for me in Cathe's STS series) weights, any stretching/yoga, rebounding and cardio are done barefoot for the past 3 years. Ended my problems with PF, which I had had the previous 10 years, trying everything else possible.

Life has inferred a few times and I stopped exercising and the PF came back. My theory is that exercising barefoot has strengthen and made my feet more flexible. I got the idea from readings done about native people running barefoot and not having the feet problems we have.

I had PF in both feet. What worked for me was getting cortisone shots in each heel (Ouch!) and constant calf stretching. I still consistently stretch my calves because I have heel spurs that will flare my PF. Also, I have to always wear shoes. My PF flared because of my high impact, non-shoe wearing taekwondo classes.

I think you can only go barefoot after the problem is nearly resolved, for prevention exercise, and then just a few minutes at a time, gradually going longer, to slowly build up your foot strength and flexibility.

Mine is in both feet, too.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I had a cortisone shot once and suffered tissue loss (it's never been the same). But I do know it works for some people!

Keep 'em coming!!

1. Low Impact
2. Stretching (especially calf stretches)
3. Shoe inserts (not expensive orthotics, just hard shoe inserts with good arch support)
4. Not going barefoot
5. Ice
