Not OT: 52-year old woman chases down home intruder

You have to be FIT to do that!!

I think chasing a "bad guy" was pretty risky, but I'm glad it worked for her:

I'm so glad I have 2 mastiffs! My big slobbery babies would be all over an intruder. I think my old boxer would too, but the mastiffs are faster.
I would be scared to death. Brave lady!

I think she's a fool for chasing after the guy and getting into a physical confrontation with him. She's lucky - she could easily have been shot.

That's just what I was thinking ... and probably what her neighbors were thinking!

When adrenaline kicks in things happen. A guy broke into our apartment when my DS was an infant sleeping in his crib. I was reading in bed and suddenly a guy was in front of me. My only thought was of my son. I leaped out of bed and charged the guy head-on, screaming like a wild woman. Fortunately he was only a prowler and ran right out where he broke in. But when the adrenaline surge wore off and I was dialing 911, it all crumbled! I was a complete mess.

She even mentioned that she just reacted in the situation, can't really blame someone for that. In the heat of the moment, it's hard to say how you will react. I speak from experience

Yup, they look deadly, lol.

I sure wouldn't try to come in that door, though.

Love the picture!

OMG Pat! How frightening, but very glad to know you and your son were okay.

I guess her first reaction was to run after him, and once she had caught him, she wasn't going to let him go.
I think it's sad that the neighbors didn't help her. I hope mine would!
We all want intruders caught and put behind bars, but someone has to take the risk if that's going to happen. Well done, Pauline Bragg!

I agree that you don't know how you would react in that situation. I'm glad she wasn't hurt. I'm also really glad you weren't hurt Pat! That's scary. I do think that if you don't act in a way that's expected it can give you an advantage.

It really bothers me that no one wants to get involved. At least they called 911 for her. I could not imagine seeing someone in that situation and not coming out to help sit on the guy. There was a story about an older guy who was driving somewhere. Something happened (details foggy) and he was pulled from his car, and was beaten senseless, with a whole bunch of people around him, watching. Just horrible.

I did get a text from my daughter the other night - she's in Mammoth doing an internship on a wildlife reserve. Bears can be a problem. She walked home one night and saw there was a bear between her and her cabin. She charged at it yelling "Bad Bear!" And scared it away. She said that that's how you handle bears, but it made me nervous. I'm glad she'll be home and then at the University for a while.
