Strengthening the core?

I swear there was a thread on this recently but I can't find it.

I am looking to strengthen my core-lower abs, hips, glutes. What dvd's have you used to strengthen your core? I'm not looking for 6-pack abs- I really just want more strength and mobility. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I just did Dream Body Fusion the other day and almost threw my water bottle at the tv because of all the core, inner thigh, hips, and glute work-core and inner thigh especially. It's a keeper.

P90X2 - the balance and core focus of these have done more for my core than any other workout ever. They have also helped my balance. I just move better after doing these.

Well, runnermom, if you are a runner, you should check out Strong Stride (and even if you're not). It's got multiple segments for the areas you want to focus on!

Strong Stride

I just started using Strong Stride. It is especially designed for runners, by a runner and running coach, to strengthen exactly the areas you mention. It's broken down into 2 workouts with, I think, 5 sections in each workout. I like that structure because it's easy to add a couple of sections after a run. I did the hip flexor/quad and core-planks sections of program 1 on Saturday. I've done lots of barre, Core Fusion, Cathe, kettlebells, and kickboxing over the years and I've never worked my upper quads and hip flexors like that. It was tough and I have major DOMS 2 days later! I think I'm really going to like these workouts, but more importantly, I think I'm really going to like what they do for me.

I agree with the Strong Stride recommendation. It works everything.

Horizontal Conditioning is the best core workout I have ever done. It's not for the faint hearted at all. It is very challenging, but so worth the effort you put into it. These are advanced workouts that will work your core like no other. IMHO.

I agree with this. My abs are the strongest they have ever been after doing HC for 3 weeks (3x per week).

For something a little less intense, I found that the first 4 weeks of the X-Factor series - yeah, that cheap one found at Walmart - strengthened my core and lower back far better than anything else I've ever done. That includes Insanity, P90X, Turbo Fire and a whole host of other programs.

Heck, I felt good enough this weekend that I did weighted squats for the first time in two years with no back issues whatsoever.
