Question P90X3 vs Cathe's ICE? (UPDATE)

I'm an older (60), low-intermediate exerciser with a few joint issues. (No jumping!)

I'm looking at these two sets knowing that I would be doing a fair bit of modifying.

Any comparisons of the two would be welcome.

I know that the P90X3 workouts are way shorter than those in ICE.

I'd be adding some joint mobility and RAMP stuff if the warm-ups aren't up to my rigorous standards.

I have both sets and honestly, both are great for an intermediate exerciser. The ICE workouts are in the 45-50 minute range, but there are timesaver premixes for all of them so you can easily cut them down to 30 minutes if that's your preference.

I like the add-ons in the ICE set - the extra upper body work in the muscle meltdowns, the core workouts and the option to ramp up any of the workouts if you want a tougher workout.

That said, I like the variety of P90X3. There's a little of everything - cardio, strength, balance, stretching. It's a great all-around program, whereas ICE is a more cardio + strength. Tony is not too goofy in these workouts either, so if he tends to bother you he's really not that bad.

I don't think you can go wrong with either set!

I think the question would be - who do you prefer to workout with? Tony or Cathe? I prefer Cathe and I think the Ice Series is great, especially with all of the premix options you get with the DVDs. However, I was surprised at the intensity of the Ice DVD's, they are definitely more challenging than I thought they would be. There are some moves with impact in them, so you would need to modify. I can't remember the impact in P90X3.

Threads like this get me in trouble. I have ICE but not P90X3. I hope others chime in because now I'm curious. I love ICE though! It has MANY options/premixes for how long you want your wkout to be. I've really enjoyed all the wkouts. They provide a cardio challenge. The muscle meltdowns can be tough if you choose the right weight. Just about anything can be modified. It's a great set with decent variety.

I have both. Both are great sets, but P90X3 is the best fitness purchase I have ever made. I did 2 months of a rotation (which is rare for me - I hate rotations) and I still pull them out when I want a short but tough add on. Tony has a modifier do all low impact (I sometimes modify that up).

BUT - Ice does not use pull ups and has less push ups. And there is the Tony component - he's more tame in these, and there is a "less Tony option" but he's Tony.

And ICE is a good set with a ton of premixes.

Thanks for the replies!

I don't mind Tony or Cathe if the workout is good.

Any more thoughts?

(Where are the VFers who say to "Just buy both!!!")

Just Buy Both!

I have P90X3 and ICE and I enjoy them both. Tony and Cathe are among my favorite instructors.

They are both very different, so it is hard to compare. I have never done either as a full rotation. Both are great sets though! Maybe you can get both and integrate them into a combo Cathe/Tony rotation. hehehe!

The P90X3 yoga DVD is my most used of that set, really love that one.
