Firm Volume 2 ~ Why I love 4-limb

Today I dusted off Volume 2 and worked out with Janet from start to finish, for the first time in at least 10 years. I've decided for the next 4 weeks to do longer workouts to help cause a little more muscle confusion.

Today was my 1 hr workout and I'm so glad I did it. This WO is why I fell in love with 4-limb aerobics, Benson style. My body response so well to this method of exercise and I think I might have smiled through the entire WO.

I know I'm nostalgic like a few others about the Classics Firms, but the music, the pastel colored outfits, the gold chain around Janet's neck, etc., just brings good feelings to the surface. I couldn't help but think good thoughts while I'm sweating buckets.

I did modify the "Run Jack Run" segment. I jogged on my Rebounder instead and then joined back with the next segment.

Hope everyone has had a great workout today! Dust something off that's been sitting for a while and maybe you'll end up with a smile on your face like I did.

Tina,

I believe that Firm workouts in general usually bring a smile to your face

I love reading your Firm posts as they always bring a smile to mine and make me want to whip out a firm dvd.

I used to be obsessed with them and would do one almost every day.

Though I can only reminisce about how much I used to love them as my knees would hurt to do them too often now.

Calistro ~ I too have knees that are sensitive these days. I don't go full bore with my Firms anymore, but I do find ways to use them. As I said in my OP, I used my rebounder for a segment, b/c I knew my knees won't like it.

I just can't give up on them. Especially for my upper body and the results I've gotten in the past, when consistent. Hands down, my calorie burn is through the roof compared to other instructors, methods, companies I've tried.

I kind of panic thinking that by the end of the year, FitFavs will be going streaming only and all dvds are going away.

Anyway, thanks for the good thoughts.

Did you stock up on them or get backups?
I
have 30+ firm/fitprimes and that is not counting the separate Tracie longs.
I can't see my self giving them up totally, but for now I am trying to recondition my body as I had not consistently exercised for a few years due to illness and injuries. I am using a lot of low impact/vintage/moderate workouts with not too many squats and lunges, but I will be using the firm/fitprimes again at some point as they are too much fun, but I will probably use a 4 inch step and keep squats shallow, but it hinges on how much I strengthen my knees.

Best.

Calistro ~I don't own every Firm ever made, but I do have the majority. I have lent out or given away a few I regret, but hopefully I will find them sooner or later.

Here's how I've modified my Firm/Fitprime Workouts:

1. Tall Box is only the blue portion. I work hard on form and really only use
the leg on the box for movement up and down.
2. No Plyos: I do wide leg kick backs or get on my rebounder for segments with
lots of plyos, jacks, bunny hops etc.
3. I have nerve damage in my neck and forearms: No heavy weights over head
anymore. I use my medium poundage for over head press, etc.
4. Squats, Lunges, & Dips: Shallow for now. But I'm working on them. I keep
my legs a bit wider when stepping forward or back to give myself better
balance. Occasionally I'll use the dowel, but not often. (still too prideful).
5. Floor work: I use the step to lay over and support my torso so that I can
really work hard in the legs and use proper form without compromising
my shoulders, wrists, neck. This does not take away the intensity of the
lower body.
6. Aerobic segments with a step: Only the purple portion. My HR is through
the roof with just this short step. Some days I'll just use the floor with no
step and still get a great cardio workout.
7. I have taken the 60 min. Classics and divided them into 2 workouts. It's quite easy to do with great chaptering. I just started using them fully just today.

That's all I can think of for now, but will add more as it comes to me.

I do FIRMs or BeMax streaming workouts 6 days a week. Monday was Prime Power Fat Burning from 1996. Yesterday was Express Cardio from 2004 and BeMax Core & Restore Barre #1. Tonight will be Zero in Ten: Target Toning from 2010. I use the 8" height for fast tall box climbs and 14" with a dowel for leg press. I love plyos. I'm 61.

I love them. The weights workouts are more gym-style than choreographed, but they are still fun. I love all the Core & Restore workouts: barre, stability ball, strength & balance with a weighted ball, etc.

Yes, I've never done one, but I see other people post about them sometimes.
