beginning exercises for plus sizes

I am overweight/plus sized. like 250 pounds. I NEED to lose weight. But most exercises, are just too much for me, Most are not a TRUE beginners workout at all.

Fitness Blender will have me burned out for days or it hurts various body joints of mine. le sigh.

any suggestions for types of exercises to try/stick to?

Perhaps you could start by doing Leslie Sansone's walking dvds. Start slowly, doing a 10 minute walk each day. Eventually increase time to 15 minutes, then 20, etc. to build your endurance.

Eventually add in some beginner's toning workouts - can't think of any right now.

There have been a lot of success stories by people who have lost a lot weight by walking with Leslie.

Best wishes to you!

Jessica Smith is wonderful, as is Leslie.

Just remember - do what you can. 10 minutes is better than nothing. It's okay to not be able to finish. Just try to do a little more the next time. Just moving is important.

You have this...

You might want to try Yoga with Adriene for a gentle introduction to yoga.

You may want to give these a look:

My first workout back in 2003 was Leslie Sansone's Miracle Mile on VHS. I had not done formal exercise in years, and I did about seven minutes the first time I tried it. Within a week or so I was able to finish the mile, and then moved up to two mile workouts. The important thing is just getting started and doing something. It does not matter how long you can do it for-establishing the habit is the hardest part, and you have the motivation to do that.

Do you have a recumbent bike or treadmill? You can play your own music or watch dvds while you go at your own pace.

Good luck and welcome! If I come up with more specific dvd ideas I will post later. It is lucky to be starting out now with so much free stuff on you tube

If you are looking for strength training, Margaret Richard gives great form pointers. Her dvds are on sale this weekend for $19.95 each plus shipping:

If you have interest in stretching and yoga:

The original Yoga Zone dvds taught by Alan Finger have wonderful, concise instruction. I enjoy most of the Yoga Zone dvds. The instructors always suggest modifications. There are a bunch of their practices on you tube.

For cardio: (instructors Petra Kolber and Debra Mazda)

This one has ten minute segments:

I like this one-it very cheap on Amazon and she gives good form pointers. The workouts are short, so they are easy to complete:

You got some great ideas here. The key really is consistency, so find something you can stick with. What kinds of workouts interest you? If you are concerned about level, check out Collage Video. It's not as clear as it used to be before they were bought out, but they still have ratings by level, and you can search by what interests you.

Shortly after I started working out to DVDs I discovered Kathy Smith's Project You, which is OOP, but still very excellent. Joanna's Project Your Your Way rotation is a way to apply her rotation with other workouts. The catch is to make sure you are using beginner workouts, but there the Collage Video ratings can help.

Finally, what about just walking or elliptical for a fixed period of time. I can predictably lose a pound a week by doing elliptical for 30-45 min/day, or the same with walking, just going at my own pace. I used to make up a playlist with dance music so I had fun.

I'll weigh in with T-Tapp MORE. I had several menopausal months where I was completely depleted of energy. T-Tapp MORE let me workout out and build strength.

I recommend, in addition to T-Tapp MORE, her Healthy Hormones workout as well as her TappCore dvd which breaks up some of her signature moves into instructionals at a slower pace.

I pray that you regain strength, flexibility, and endurance as you make more healthful choices.

You've gotten some great suggestions here. I'll second Leslie. She's got a couple of compilation dvds that might interest you. Walk Away the Pounds for your week- 2-1 miles 1-2 mile 1-2 mile with toning using a band & a beginner's pilates workout. Walk Away the Pounds 5-day fit walk has a one mile 2-2 miles a 2 mile with a kickboxing feel to it & a 1 mile using light hand weights. Walk Your Belly Flat has background exercisers that have lost major weight using Leslie.

I think YBB Live is beginner friendly, you can find them used. I recommend Light & Easy highly for a beginner if you can find it.

I wish you good luck & success
