This is me! Definitely my lithmus test for strength If I can still lift one bag in each hand and make it to the water softener downstairs (it's much harder going downstairs, ugh!) then I'm satisfied.

Well, I guess I'm lazy. I probably could lift the kitty litter myself, but I let my my friend do it when he comes over. I feel no guilt about this. However it's nice to know I could do it myself if I had to. I also let him vacuum if he's willing. I feel no need to do everything myself anymore.
This is okay too lol! All are welcome to vacuum. And Big Bubble is more than welcome to come lift the bags if he happens to be with me. But it's nice to know I don't have to depend on him to do it.

These stories remind me of the 20kg (44lb) bags of bird seed I buy - they always offered to carry it to the car for me. My reply, as I hoisted it onto my shoulder, was always "Thankyou, but no. The sooner I accept your help, the sooner I'll need it." THEN I broke my shoulder - doing 180-turns at-speed on roller skates. Took a year, but I'm hoisting again.

Congratulations, Linda! I love how exercise and strength training has brought back feats of strength in so many VFers!

Good for you Linda! I have gone through the whole injury recovery cycle as well although I am not quite up to doing what you just did. I was mentioning in another thread about Casey Johnston's strength training blog/newsletter* She posted this on IG which I just thought of when I read your post

I was on the edge of my seat reading that! lol I'm so glad you tried it and learned how strong you are. It's also a reminder to me not to get a cat or buy a house with stairs because I hadn't thought of those things.

And AMD, whoohoo!! That bottled water isn't easy to deal with. When I once bought some for pick up at Target, the cashier asked if I needed a cart and I said no. I don't know what I was thinking! I carried it all the way to my car parked on the far end of the lot. LOL So now I now I can, but I won't do it again.

Good work, all you strong ladies! And I absolutely agree with Donna's post, I exercise so that I can move and hopefully not have trouble lifting, squatting, etc now and especially when I'm older.

Oh this post makes me so happy! I'm thrilled for you, Linda, and.... you give me so much hope. I've been thinking that I might never get over this sciatica or whatever it is (but I think that's probably it), but you make me think it's possible I will heal and be able to lift kitty litter, chicken feed, or whatever it is. . Go you!!

Am I reading this right? You are carrying each 40# bag in each hand walking down the stairs?? I can carry ONE bag but I always have to hold onto the railing with the other hand! But this may be due to my klutziness and not necessarily my arthritic issues!

Wow, carrying the case to the other side of the parking lot from the store? WTG! You have me curious now...next time I buy one of the 40 pack cases at Sam's, I'm going to put it on my scale to see how much they actually weigh! I noticed they are a lot heavier than the 24 pack cases that I usually buy!! ETA: Ok, I was at Sam's getting my new glasses adjusted and buying water and other items today and got my scale out and weighed the 40 pack case... 46.4#!!! Wow, I had no idea it weighed more than the bags of salt!! I bought 2 cases too which meant extra hauling. No wonder my hands complained (but not AS BAD as a year ago)!

Congratulations! You don't realize how important strength is until you lose it.
