For me, barre work tones but the foundation, IMO, has been set by years of lunges and squats with and without weights. I favour any workout that does several sets of lunges. And you don't need the t.v. - 3-4 sets of 20 lunges with light or no weights - every other day. Callanetics and barre work tone but I think the lunges are key (IMO).

A combination of Firm type step up and Lotte Berk/Barre works best for me.

I had this same problem, and Squeeze Lower Body Challange or Squeeze Stronger really made a difference.

As I mentioned up thread, I find that step ups (or tall box climbs) with weights really build the booty, but they also can build the quads. A good alternative might be the floorwork I mentioned with weights, particularly stuff like donkey kicks, glute lifts/press ups with both a bent knee and a straight leg, ham curls, fire hydrants, etc. When you're working on all fours your quads are less likely to kick in and assist the hams and glutes.

Ditto. I tried one without the other, and don't like the results, but I don't think it has to be all or nothing and find the best results with combining the two.

ROTF! Despite the negative pre-press I'm still interested in this one.

Those are sometimes called Bulgarian split squats, as I mentioned in my post. A weird name, huh?

I know my suggestion of the old gym standbys with heavy weights would be unpopular , but I'm so surprised none of the other kettlebellers have chimed in. The kettlebell butt effect is well known!

I have another vote for the "Firm Signature Move" leg press with heavy weights. I've gotten lots of comments on having a cute butt and it's thanks to the leg press and some floor work with ankle weights (think table, bridge work). I also agree that Pilates side leg work does great things for the glutes!
