late to this thread - i find it very interesting about the black eyed peas.

my mom used to cook prime rib on New Year's Day served on the good china! i didn't continue that tradition because my mom's cooking was a hard act to follow.

instead, i have adopted eating Japanese mochi, Chinese jai or Japanese ozoni soup. i prefer my jai to be more like a soup. i've discovered that a lot of people make their jai differently.

we just celebrated Chinese (lunar) New Year and i got to try my co-worker's version of Chinese jai. it's for wealth and prosperity for the coming year. also, it's the year of the Tiger, my personal zodiac.
