Don't college students have better things to do these days? Do they not read a newspaper or watch the news? Are they unaware of anything outside of Facebook? Sanctimonious little twits.

Getting back to the original complainants, what gives them the authority to make comments on whether these classes were 'culturally appropriate?' I Googled "yoga in Ottawa Canada" and came up with over 50 businesses that appear to offer yoga instruction. If this class was so offensive, you would think that one of these businesses would have complained. And they would have a more legitimate basis on which to call a foul. Yet apparently, nary a peep.

I live in Ottawa (and attended the University of Ottawa ages ago), and I wanted to chime in that yoga is hugely popular here, as it is almost everywhere. In fact, weekly free yoga classes are held on Parliament Hill, which would be the equivalent of several hundred people doing yoga on the White House lawn:

Oh, and the issue with being unable to agree on a new name for the class in French? In this city, I can absolutely see that the class would have been cancelled for that reason. This is a government town, and everything must be equally bilingual here.

Bearing in mind, that Chinese are no strangers around either cabbage OR beef ... this seems picayune (a French Creole cognate, btw ... for any philologists in the house ..)

This. The amount of investment that the VA and Walter Reed have done in integrating aspects of Yoga Nidra - particularly the iRest Method - for PTSD is astonishing. And also doing a lot of good.

Just so You Know, the Yoga Class could Easily Be Back in January 2016

According to a Canadian blogger, who had delved deeply into the ensuing media frenzy, and the resultant threats and brouhaha ...

It could be back in January 2016.

For that, I am hopeful and glad. Yet another avenue for a yoga instructor to selflessly spread the practice amongst the egregiously underserved ...

In its entirety here (long!!!):

http://allthingsyogablog.wordpress.c...appropriation/

Insofar as cultural appropriation: yea or nay? Should you give up practicing it only because of that: yea or nay? ... the answer is no, but possibly with reservations:

http://www.vice.com/en_ca/read/is-we...actice-it?utm_

Personally, I am giving gentle yoga more than just one waltz around the room these days ...

I read a short article by a journalist who essentially said in response to this situation at Ottawa u that political correctness has become a form of bullying in certain instances - like this one.
