I did not have to return my scratched DVDs to receive a new set. IMHO, I also think that your coach is rude. I would consider buying from a different coach next time.

Helen
Definitely get a new coach. She/he needs to lose your business. And if BB is concerned about people selling scratched sets, they should get this issue resolved immediately and NEVER let this happen again in the future. I don't think people should profit off of scratched sets but it is BB's repsponsibility to send out a product without defect. If BB wants the scratched sets returned they should pay for the cost to ship it back. BB will profit in the long run by getting this right and people who are loaned or purchase scratched sets (not condoning selling a scratched set) will probably make purchases from BB in the future based on this awesome product that they might not have otherwise been exposed to. I know I've acquired Turbo Jams since CLX and am looking towards what Chalene will come up with next for future purchases and I was never tempted enough to break down and purchase before CLX. BB has had plenty of time to get this fixed and sending out scratched set after scratched set is just plain ridiculous!

I've been assuming they might start making people send back the scratched copies to increase the opportunity cost of getting another set (so people will settle for the damaged - but work anyway - sets).

Not to be cynical, but I'm assuming alot of customers are not as aware of their rights etc. and probably would just frown and bear it, and if people are receiving a THIRD set of scratched/fingerprinted DVDs, I can't help but wonder if Beachbody might just re-sell the returned copies hoping it finds its way into more passive hands. Considering all of the stuff I've heard about their customer service, I wouldn't be at all surprised.

Is it possible this is a manufacturing defect by a third party, and they need to return the scratched discs to them to get credit for the manufacturer's sloppy work?

Thank you all for your comments.

I did email Pierre at Beachbody and he responded quickly. The reason customers now have to return the scratched DVD sets in return for a scratch free set is due to the fact that some customers online were selling the "scratched copies" as usable

Beachbody did email me 2 return labels for me to use and Pierre offered as soon as I mail out the 2 scratched sets, he will have a new set mailed out 2nd day air.

I completely understand their wanting the scratched copies returned. I've always thought it was unethical to sell (or even give away) the scratched copies. I guess BB assumed people would be honest about it.

I don't blame them for wanting them back either. I don't know it they thought people were honest enough not to resell scratched ones or not though, I think maybe they've just been too disorganized and didn't want the extra hassle! Lol! But when you think about it, how do they know if the discs are really scratched or not. There is definitely a potential for big losses either way. Now that they seem to be getting more organized, maybe there won't be a need to send out replacements because they won't send scratched ones out in the first place!

Kathryn, I gave my set to a friend so I'm curious why you think it's unethical to give the set away. I thought I was being a good do-bee.

Good to your friend, but not necessarily good to the business from whom you got a free replacement of a set that you claimed you didn't want to or couldn't use as-is. By giving away the set, you cut into BB's business and reduce their potential profits (since your friend will now not buy the set from them.)

Others may not see it as unethical or dishonest, but that's their take on it.

Makes sense. I know she wasn't ever going to buy it (and maybe not even use it) so I don't feel too badly.

I have to chime in here and say I feel very strongly that passing on the scratched copies, even if you don't profit, is very unethical. You're basically doing the same thing as making a copy of music, a movie, whatever, and passing it on. Does no one pay attention to the FBI warnings on dvds? It may seem like such a small thing -- just one copy, they wouldn't buy it anyway -- but the people making these works of art/whatever you may call it deserve to be paid for their work.

off my soapbox,
B
