Old Timer Getting Back in the Game

Hey all! I’m an old old old old timer (like from the 90s, notwithstanding my join date of 2002, which was round 2 for me on VF). It’s entirely possible I’m even Facebook friends with some of you. This isn’t my original VF name, but sadly I don’t remember what it was.
Anyway I’ve been lurking on and off for years but tonight I finally decided to dust off my log-in info and actually post!
I’m mostly writing to say hi but also looking for info/encouragement as I restart. I have A WHOLE LOT of videos like a good vidiot (including a good number of beginner options) but haven’t seen many beginner streaming options - anyone know of anything? Anyone have a good beginner rotation for someone who is really creaky and sore and just plain out of shape?
It’s really good to be back, older and wiser and slower and weaker.

Welcome Back! I don't have any suggestions but I can identify with having soooooooooooooo many dvds. I don't use them anymore. I stream Studio Sweat on Demand (it is amazing - spin workouts and so much more) and Cathe. Cathe has so many offerings and you can make your own workouts.

Welcome back!

I don’t stream so I can’t speak to that but I know someone will hop in and help you out. In the meantime if you share what genre of of DVDs and/ or rotations you used to like it will give people a basis for making suggestions. What was the last workout you remember doing that really lit your workout fire?

Jessica Smith and Gina B (UpBeat Fitness) have tons of beginner workouts on YouTube.

Hi :-)
Thank you for introducing yourself! So happy to meet you!

It’s tough getting back into an exercise routine. My main suggestion would be do less than you think you can as you start your fitness journey. If you overdo, and get sore, you won’t be as motivated to continue.

In the beginning it’s important to find a balance between too little and too much. Classic Stretch has a streaming site. They work on stretching and flexibility. https://essentrics.com/page/productd...Membership.htm

Brooke Burke has a reasonably priced streaming subscription with a free trial. She also has included a rotation with short workouts appropriate for beginners. She works strength, cardio and flexibility.

Welcome Back!

I, too, have had setbacks lately due to a health issue and some physical (mostly hip pain) problems. When I just don't want to workout (and who wants to workout with pain?!) I've found a few standby workouts that get me going:

- Jessica Smith. She has some nice videos on Youtube for under the weather, TTOTM (which, at 60, I am past that part of my life, but I like the simple, easy, moves in this workout), and for recovery (or active rest), as well as lots of different types of stretching & yoga. She has also put together a few rotations using her workouts. Oh, and she has tons of low-impact walking-type cardio workouts in various lengths. I love her 15-minute walk-n-talks!

- Your post actually inspired me to take a look at some Youtube channels and I found a few workouts that I've added to my watch later list. BodyFit by Amy, Pahla B Fitness, and AngieFitnessTV are channels that all have possibilities for some good beginner (or short) workouts/programs.

- I've collected some DVDs for 'mature' people (Older and Wiser by Sue Grant and Absolute Beginners by Angie Miller) that I tend to reach for when I feel I need a full workout (but just don't have the energy for a 'real' workout) or want to get some steps added to my fitness tracker.

- Easy yoga (Jane Adams has some great DVDs!)

- Walking outside, whenever my hip allows. Walking, my favorite type of exercise, is really hard with my hip issue, so I don't do it much anymore.

Sorry that my suggestions aren't all streaming programs. I hope you find something that works for you and hope to see your posts on VF.

Donna

Welcome Back!

Just want to suggest that you check out Jenny Ford workouts on YouTube or Amazon Prime. She has lots of beginner workouts and I find her demeanor very encouraging! Her March Across America is a fun way to get back into exercise while viewing different scenery!

Remember to start slowly and don't over exert yourself in the beginning. But most importantly...have FUN!!!

Welcome back! Have you got any Jessica Smith? She has a lot on YouTube, too. Some of them are kinda' tough, but many are gentle and accommodating, especially her walking workouts.
