I love a good step workout! It can't be too dancey, though, or I'll trip over the step. But step workouts that have simpler choreography and are more athletic are FUN!!! If I notice after doing step that my feet are bothering me, it is usually because it is time to get a new pair of shoes, but other than that step doesn't seem to bother my feet or knees (for now- I hope this doesn't change!)

I wish Gin Miller would put Aerostep out on DVD. I don’t remember it well, but I liked it a lot and seem to remember some of the moves were done off the step and there was a background exerciser that I thought looked like Céline Dion. I’d also like to see all of Jane Fonda’s step workouts on DVD.

I enjoy step, but I can't handle tricky choreography, so I'll just modify. I almost always just use the platform without risers, so it doesn't bother my knees.
At Mary's last sale I bought Rhythmic Step/MIC/IMax and I'd forgotten what a great workout IMax is! The choreography is doable, I just modify some of the impact.

step really works your muscles in a different way. i used to be a jogger, and when i tried my first step video - wow, i was amazed at the workout i received. i agree it's a combination of working your heart, eye-hand coordination, and your legs. if it bothers your knees, try tweaking your foot placement.
you can always lower your step - i just use the top and no risers. you can also not step throughout the entire workout and just do the part of it on the floor. i also do the real basic ones - Gilad, Gin, Denise, Kathy Smith, Karen Voight, Kathy Kaehler, Ballroom Aerobics. These are slow enough to allow you to focus on foot placement and intense enough for your heart.
