Do harder longer workouts give you better results?

Just like the title says ... do longer more intense workouts give you better results? More weight loss or muscle definition? Thanks in advance!

Not necessarily..it's the intensity of the workouts that makes the difference for me. Although, I my best results come from varying intensities.

Like a really hard workout day(1.5 hours...this includes focused stretching/foam rolling).
To just a 30 minute HITT workout

I guess it depends on whether you are conditioned enough to handle it? More intense and longer workouts carry more risk for injury and negative stress responses. And some bodies respond to intense or sustained effort with a corresponding jump in appetite and the need for more recovery/rest.

Not if they make you so hungry you eat everything in sight.

This. Personally, I do much better with walking, Pilates (and the type I do isn't easy), and occasional barre or low impact cardio for variety. It's so individual.

I am more hungry and achy with more intense workouts.

No. I don't like longer more intense workouts and won't do them consistently.

For me, it's not the length of the workouts or even the intensity that gets me best results. It's the consistency. I get the best results and feel my best when I work out pretty much every day - no matter what I do or for how long. By results I mean staying healthy, flexible and ache-free. These are the "results" I value most at this time of my life.

x 1,000!!!!!

I would love to exercise for harder and longer, but I get so ravenous and then sooooooo frustrated when I work out hard and eat thousands of calories to quench my insatiable appetite. However, I think with a VERY slow progression of intensity and length (after consistency has been established), you can sneak into more intense/long workouts and not have the appetite problem...to a point. But that transition for me in the past has happened over months or even years before getting the intensity up without the appetite problem.

I've gotten my best results lately by doing barre type workouts that don't burn much calories, but give me toning benefits while "clean eating" as much as possible. If I do high intensity workouts, I try to make them shorter which doesn't make me ravenous.

I completely agree that consistency trumps length or intensity any day!!
