It probably works for some people because they actually DO the workout consistently. I have a few of SIS DVDs (purchased used and separately) and I see why they would be effective, if slightly boring. You do anything consistently and you'll get results.

For me, these workouts actually worked out well - my waist area got really toned and definitely "smaller". Even my DH who notices NOTHING had made a comment back then at how well I looked.

That being said, the music is truly awful and if/when I do pull them out, I can only do a 1-2 week rotation at most with them.

One thing I do modify is that I shorten Shape It Up into two separate workouts. One one day I'll do the waist work plus upper body, and on another day will do the waist work and lower body. Much more do-able than 78 minutes! (probably comes out to about 40 minutes or so)

The couple of times I did a rotation I got great results from them. But, I have to watch in the beginning for signs of overtraining. I like to alternate with cardio, etc. The last rotation of them I did was SS/Barre/Cardio and it was great!

But, like Jeanne, I use them the most in conjunction with other things.

Yeah, 78 minutes is a killer. I found Tear It Up to be the most unbearable of the longer workouts. I like it for the intensity but Debbie loses me after awhile. This one I found a bit repetitive - so many lunge/squat sequences.

Terri - I do this all the time too! I've even made my own DVD's set up for these combinations so I don't have to hit skip all the time. But I think they're closer to 50 minutes each (sorry!).

Am I glad to see I'm not the only one. I loved Debbie, but traded all of her workouts away because of the breathing!

I've done the 4 weeks of Slim Training twice and for 2 weeks once. The first 2 times I lost over 10 pounds each and lots of inches (I measured every Monday and it was so motivating to keep going because sometimes I'd lose over an inch in some places!) The last time I did it, I didn't lose any weight, but went down a size (just in the two weeks).

I've found when I do it that my strength increases and my cardio capacity goes down, but I"m able to get that back.

For me, it is different than sticking with another rotation. I've done 2 Cathe muscle endurance rotations for 4 weeks each and haven't lost weight with either -- my clothes got looser, but I didn't go down a size. I've done many other Cathe rotations and rarely lose inches or weight with them -- I'm not sure why -- even when I'm doing 3 days of cardio. I do get more hungry when I lift heavier, so that may play into it.

I think SS does the trick for me because it burns calories like cardio (my HR goes up with the lunge series, etc.) but is constantly working my muscles.

Somehow there's no boredom factor for me except for Tear It Up and Cool It Off. So I've done yoga in CIO's place and stop TIU early when the band work starts. Also, I never do SIU and FIU back to back like in the guide book. Wayyyyyyy too much on my lower body.

I think it depends on what you're looking for in terms of the almighty "results." I did the full SS thingio, burn, firm, tone, whatever, was utterly bored to tears, and watched myself lose muscle mass. No thanks. SS is the only rotation I've ever ditched.

If it works for you, it works for you, but that was my experience.

SS works for me, too. My body seems to respond better to more weight work vs more cardio. SS just sort of "sucks me in", esp in the waist area.

I can't do it with the sound on, tho. The only way I can tolerate these it to stick them in the laptop, but said laptop on top of the TV and do SS while watching Headline News. (Oops, excuse me, HLN)

I have gotten amazing results from Slim Series, and it isn't just because it was making me work out consistently. . . I was working out consistently prior to Slim Series.

After lots and lots of thinking about this. . . I think it comes down to the fact that endurance workouts like Slim Series don't make me more hungry, and they also have a cardio effect.

I did CLX, and it made me starving. I gained weight and didn't really tone up at all. It wasn't the heavy weights, it was that I was eating more. Plus there is no cardio effect from the strength workouts (even though I always did a short cardio video prior to the strength workouts and added extra cardio in as well).

Recently I have been alternating Slim Series with running, and I have loved the results. I tried to post photos of myself after CLX and now after the SS and running. Even though I was only 22 weeks pregnant in the CLX photos, I look bigger than I look now at 29 weeks pregnant.

I always listen to music instead of listening to Debbie and the music on SS. I will NEVER part with these videos, and I highly recommend them.
