Goals 2016

Well holy aging process; I'll be 70 in the coming year. I have to set realistic fitness goals. No more Cathe Max's... everything scaled down to low (very) impact, yoga, stretching and anything that keeps me supple and joint fit. I'm wondering if any of you have recommendations you might share? I have over 100 fitness DVD's. Yep, I've been a member here for a very long time. Happy Holidays everyone and a very healthy new year.

I'll give a plug for Essentrics/Classical Stretch. Love it. Maybe your local PBS carries Classical Stretch or you can try out all the workouts on Essentrics TV. There's a sale going on now, too. Your buzz words for me were low impact, stretching, supple and joint fit. Give Miranda and Sahra a try.

I am a big believer in the need in keeping supple & I do half or more in my % of my daily workout. I recently started CS & think it is great. I love Yoga (Jill Miller/Elements) & other stretching DVD (Karen Voight). I find I need this triad of CS, Yoga & streching. You made the right choice in changing things up IMO!

I'll be 60 in the coming year. I vote for Classical Stretch.

I think I tried it way-back-when years ago and was bored. But I'm older now. I bought the CS bundle during the sale, solely because of VFers raves. Now I'll rave about it! It makes me feel looser and freer. I have to start my day with it. It works much better for me than yoga; I'll use yoga for more of a mindfulness/meditation session.

Thanks, Donna

another DonnaMarie here, going to be 66. I have had no luck at all with Classical Stretch, always injured, or close to an injury. If it was taught here, I would go and learn but I stay away from the dvds. The instruction- no comment. Sara is more reasonable and I do have a couple of hers. I would go there if you want to use CS.
I am getting James D'silva's dvd for Xmas.
I love pilates and yoga. I have hundreds of dvdd. This year was tough for me. currently going to go for a mri of my knee. I think my Firm days might be over- all those lunges and climbs. and I was really careful, and I do a 30 minute am yoga stretch without fail.
so I too am thinking - how do I proceed from here? I so miss working out with the Firm. kissed step away quite a while ago.
good luck DonnaMarie.
maybe barre? I did a round of that with no injuries.

Hated Classical Stretch. Yuck!

This year, I found great workouts for older adults:

- Jane Adams yoga videos:

- Andrea DuCane's Kettlebell Boomer:

- And, Susie Hathaway's Safe Strength Training for Osteoporosis Prevention:

ETA: Oh and mostly Leslie for cardio. Plus, my elliptical.

I'm new to CS. I've only used about 7 episodes of Season 6. So I'm not in a position to recommend anything. There's a CS check-in; you may want to ask them if you are interested. Also CS has streaming so you could pay for that for a month to see if you like it first. Also, Miranda now has a book "Aging Backwards" with some sequences in it; you may want to borrow that from the library and see what you think!

Someone else may have already mentioned this, but CS is shown every morning on a PBS station where I live. They're on Season 10 right now. I've been recording it and I really enjoy it.

My 2016 goals are to finish RIPT90 in March which is when the new workout by Tony Horton will be coming out and then start on that one. I do CS when stretch days come up on the RIPT90 schedule.
