Sometimes it can be a help just to let them know that you got the request however you feel about following through.

Honestly? If you can't remember to reply? Maybe hold off on trying to trade for a while.

A lack of attention to your trading partners (potential or actual) can seem like something less benign than a momentary lapse of attention.

Reflection of society in general. Manners are becoming a thing of the past.

Same thing w/a recent freebie I offered. I received several requests for one of the items and promised it to the first person who replied. Still haven't received the SASE, so I'll likely be offering it up again.

I agree with this too.

This is not really a pet peeve of mine, but I always wonder why I see (more frequently than you'd think) someone post a trade list but then put a disclaimer about something like, "I'm going on vacation for the next week and can't respond until I get back." Why not just wait to post?

I have to agree with that. I wouldn't consider not replying to someone, that's just common courtesy.

I usually respond to emails. However, once in awhile, one gets by me. I see it at work while I'm really busy and I want to check something at home before I respond and then I forget. I've been glad when the person gently reminds me about responding instead of writing me off as rude person who doesn't deserve to be communicated with.

It happens to the best of us, if you trade long enough and/or often enough. I can't imagine just not responding to a trade email as a rule - you're right, that's rude. But, we are all human and things can get past us as well.

I've had quite a few not respond to my trade requests. I also have received severely scratched dvds without being told upfront about their condition. Some wait until they receive their end of the trade before sending out their dvds too. Times are a changing!

ITA! These here are my exact same pet peaves. I try to always respond, and I am a stickler (or atleast try to be) about constant communication. If i am gonna be late mailing, or anything like that, i usually have a good reason and of course am gonna let the tradee know ahead of time. If they don't trust the person and want to wait to mail, that is a sign they shouldn't be trading probably.
Honesty and communication are big deals to me in all life, but especially with people we never see in person.

I rarely trade anymore for the above reasons and more. (Although, my last few trades have gone very well.)

Things ain't what they used to be. On VF and in society in general. (Ha, I sound like the old person that I am. Err, I mean "vintage.")
