Pelvic Floor

After having baby #2 last month, "down there" has been really weak (as expected). I've been doing postnatal workouts (Tracey Mallett, Tracy Anderson, Lindsey Brinn) so I don't overdo it but I can't stand it...I can't do any impact whatsoever because everything is so weak.

Is there anything I can do (besides kegels, which supposedly aren't really even that helpful) to speed things up and make everything normal again?

Amazon has a book called You Go Girl by Missy Lavender that might help. Her website with the book and DVD are here.

I just had my first child and ended up in physical therapy for my pelvic floor for 6 months. One dvd I found was Hab-It http://www.hab-it.com/ . It has really helped pull everything back together. Also you want to make sure that you're keeping good posture. Are you breastfeeding? I was told everything would feel 'loose' until I stopped breastfeeding. Hope this helps.

Katy Bowman has some material on the subject, too. I haven't read any of it, but she def. casts aspersions on kegels, IIRC.

Linda, is your baby sleeping any better?

What about those devices that you use internally? *blush* I have a friend who says they helped her avoid an episiotomy with a large baby.

Deep squatting helped me immensely.

I was very sick for a very long time, and being so immobile for years made my pelvic floor fall apart. I did kegels for quite awhile, and they worked, BUT - ahem - this is very personal, so I apologize - all of the contracting ended up making my pelvic floor too tense and I started experiencing pain... um during certain times.

I think if you kegel, you should also learn to relax and lengthen the pelvic floor at the same time. The Kegel Queen is supposed to have really good information and programs for that.

I personally follow Katy Bowman's advice and it is working for me. But since my problem wasn't due to giving birth, I'm not sure if it would be enough for others.

Good luck! Losing function in that area can be quite devastating.

Nuggie's Auntie - You're asking the wrong person. I've never had a baby.
