You know when you're first starting to relax, and there's a wonderful moment of ease? Ahhh! For example, when doing corpse pose, take a moment to quiet your mind and relax for about three relatively slow breaths. That should be 'enough' to get to that little moment. Some days, that brief respite is all I get, but it seems to carry me through. Just taking a moment for myself makes all the difference. Sure, I suppose it's mostly psychological, but I'll accept that gift. Making sure to get plenty of fluids is also key. I like to make my own fruit punch (fruit juice, actual sugar, and water). Most of the time I just make it with fresh squeezed orange juice, but other options are also very tasty. The next day, after some intense exertion, I find it's better to get up and do something, even a little bit, rather than just take a whole rest day. Somehow that leads to more activity. (Which seems to have lead the OP into this recovery situation ... )

Great thread and great suggestions!
When I've overdone it, I find that very gentle cardio, like Leslie's Walk Diet, followed by a gentle stretch for the lower body can help ease doms and loosen things up. Even just marching in place while watching tv can generate enough internal heat to ease aching muscles a bit. |
