Another light bulb moment.

Today I did Suzanne B. Barre Blast from her new Prevention release. Just for those still considering this dvd, all 3 are different from each other. I enjoy all 3 for different reason..

Anyway, back to why I'm posting. In Barre Blast she has you the dreaded mountain climbers. Yes, I said those words. Normally I would stop right there and literally watch until they're done. But this morning I decided to try something I've never done.

I think they're called Pikes. While holding plank on toes, I pushed my hips up to form a pike and then back down to plank. These were totally doable for me and I felt empowered for the first time in a long time. My upper body is always a issue when it comes to push ups, planks, mountain climbers, etc.

If you too have these issues, try a Pike, it really works the shoulders and upper back nicely.

What a great idea!

I'm glad you had such a good experience with it.

Suzanne's Prevention set is on my wishlist, however I was going to chime in with something interesting.

Exhale Core Fusion Pure Intensity Cardio, from a barre series led by Fred DeVito and Liz Halfpap, contains DMC (dreaded mountain climbers).

however, because this workout is done barefoot, and because of the sequencing, it doesn't bother my mid-back as much. I don't know why, but I loved doing it in this particular workout.

if DMC or its cousin DB (dreaded burpees) comes up in other workouts, I place my hands on the seat of a chair or FL and do it that way. in this modification, my upper body is propped up and there is less pressure on my mid-back.

my shoulders are fine for these moves.
