Ot: brown spots on stainless steel appliances

They appeared out of nowhere three years after buying our fridge and dishwasher. I have only used a spray cleaner specifically made for stainless steel.

Any ideas of how to safely clean them off?

Thank you!

I would try Bar Keeper's Friend (in liquid). If you have an instagram account, GoCleanCo is amazing - it's a cleaning business in Calgary, Canada and she has been so helpful this quarantine!

Thank you both! I only have the powder Bar Keeper's Friend. Should I get the liquid? I am afraid the powder may scratch it.

Bar Keeper's liquid and only rub back and forth with the grain of the stainless steel. Also, a good stainless steel cleaner can add "gloss" to the surface that makes the stains less noticeable.

Thank you so much! It is so weird that the stains appeared on both appliances on the same day.
I did not even want stainless steel, but that seems to be practically the only choice now.

I have stainless steel everything in my kitchen. I love the way it looks but I hate cleaning it! There are water drips on my dishwasher that no matter what I use, no matter how hard I work it, they won't disappear. Had I known there was "fingerprint-proof" stainless available (not sure what it's really called) I would have gotten that.

In the meantime, I wait for them to die so I can replace them!

Diane, I agree! Our refrigerator died with no.warning (but it was 20 years old so we are not complaining). I really only like the traditional freezer on top design , so that limited our choices. I do a lot of cooking from scratch , and the side by side models seemed to have so much less space. They did have one that was not stainless steel, but it would take three weeks to get back in stock and we could not wait that long. We got the dishwasher to match since it was 20 years old and would die soon anyway.

Sherry have you tried any Norwex products? The stainless cleaning cloth is quite amazing as is the cleaning paste. Another product I like is A-ben-a-qui Universal Cleaner, which is an American product. I haven’t used it on stainless, but it works on a multitude of surface marks on walls & floors and is not abrasive.
